It began in 2001 as the project for Dan Whitford. In 2003, Whitford recruited a band, and in 2005 toured internationally for the first time, visiting London, New York and Los Angeles. They have played with international acts Franz Ferdinand, TV on the Radio, Pretty Girls Make Graves and Junior Senior, amongst others. Cut Copy is signed to the record label Modular in Sydney.
In 2004, Cut Copy released their debut album Bright Like Neon Love. The music is written and produced by frontman Dan Whitford, who is also a graphic designer and DJ. Cut Copy released three singles from this album: "Saturdays," "Future," and "Going Nowhere."
They also released a Fabriclive album featuring a mix of several synth/retro/elektropop songs such as (for example) MSTRKRFT and New Young Pony Club.
Their second album, In Ghost Colours, was released in 2008. Four singles were issued: "So Haunted," "Hearts on Fire," "Lights and Music," and "Far Away."
In 2011, Cut Copy released their third album, Zonoscope, which included the singles "Where I'm Going," "Take Me Over," and "Need You Now." Zonoscope marked the addition of bassist and synthesist Ben Browning to the Cut Copy lineup, making the group a four-piece. Browning had previously supported the band as a touring musician throughout the In Ghost Colours Tour.

Corner of the Sky
Cut Copy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Legacy of danger
This is where the answer lies
Underneath the rainbow
Chasing where the gold go
Acid smiles, distant eyes
Oh, eyes to the middle
What you love is right in the middle
Don't try to change it
If you see a comet
In the corner of the sky tonight
Maybe you can catch it
And keep it secret 'til the end of time
Meeting in the boardroom
Drop you in the cauldron
You're the means, you're not the end
Facts and figures suit you
Jackets made of voodoo
Sign the line, it's in the sand
Oh, eyes to the middle
Don't try to change your mind
What you love is right in the middle
Don't try to change it
If you see a comet
In the corner of the sky tonight
Maybe you can catch it
And keep it secret 'til the end of time
Oh, it makes me wonder if you'll ever see
If you'll ever see
The lyrics to Cut Copy's song "Corner of the Sky" reflect a message about seeking wisdom and following one's own desires amidst a world of danger and pressure to conform. The song describes a quest for answers that may come from unexpected sources, such as a stranger or a comet in the sky. The lyrics also suggest the danger of losing oneself in the pursuit of success or the approval of others, as represented by the metaphorical boardroom and the pressure to conform to societal norms.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the importance of staying true to one's own passions and not trying to change them. The line "What you love is right in the middle" suggests that our true desires and purpose are already within us and do not need to be sought after externally. The imagery of the comet in the sky represents the possibility of discovering something magical and rare that is unique to oneself, but must be kept secret and cherished.
Overall, "Corner of the Sky" encourages listeners to trust their inner wisdom and intuition, even in the midst of seemingly overwhelming external pressures. It reminds us to seek out the hidden, magical aspects of life that are often overlooked in our quest for success and conformity.
