It began in 2001 as the project for Dan Whitford. In 2003, Whitford recruited a band, and in 2005 toured internationally for the first time, visiting London, New York and Los Angeles. They have played with international acts Franz Ferdinand, TV on the Radio, Pretty Girls Make Graves and Junior Senior, amongst others. Cut Copy is signed to the record label Modular in Sydney.
In 2004, Cut Copy released their debut album Bright Like Neon Love. The music is written and produced by frontman Dan Whitford, who is also a graphic designer and DJ. Cut Copy released three singles from this album: "Saturdays," "Future," and "Going Nowhere."
They also released a Fabriclive album featuring a mix of several synth/retro/elektropop songs such as (for example) MSTRKRFT and New Young Pony Club.
Their second album, In Ghost Colours, was released in 2008. Four singles were issued: "So Haunted," "Hearts on Fire," "Lights and Music," and "Far Away."
In 2011, Cut Copy released their third album, Zonoscope, which included the singles "Where I'm Going," "Take Me Over," and "Need You Now." Zonoscope marked the addition of bassist and synthesist Ben Browning to the Cut Copy lineup, making the group a four-piece. Browning had previously supported the band as a touring musician throughout the In Ghost Colours Tour.

So Haunted
Cut Copy Lyrics

There's all these satellites, satellites, satellites
Orbiting you and me
Just one glimpse can change a life, change a life, change a life
And you can see
Through all these satellites, satellites, satellites
Orbiting you and me
One glimpse change a life, change a life, change a life, change it
I get so haunted, That I fall in your dreams tonight
I get so haunted, That I misunderstood tonight
What's that you see?
There's all the satellites, satellites, satellites
Haunting you and me
Just one glimpse can change a life, change a life, change a life
And you can see
Through all these satellites, satellites, satellites
Haunting you and me
One glimpse change a life, change a life, change a life, change it
I get so haunted, That I fall in your dreams tonight
I get so haunted, That I misunderstood tonight
I get so haunted, That I fall in your dreams tonight
I get so haunted, That I misunderstood tonight
This is real, this is what you search out
And you wouldn't believe, you could never see it's true
You can leave, and you could go out, search out
Harbor daze
Harbor daze
In a harbor daze
In a harbor daze
The lyrics of Cut Copy's "So Haunted" explore the impact of technology and the extent to which it can affect our lives. The opening lines refer to satellites orbiting the earth, emphasizing how these objects are always there, even if we can't see them. The suggestion is that technology is omnipresent, and always influencing us. The second verse repeats this idea but this time it is more personal—technology is not just out there, it is haunting the singer and the person they address.
The chorus's first line references an emotion of fear or apprehension, making 'haunted' a metaphorical reference to the way technology begins to control aspects of our lives. The second line hints at misunderstanding-that is, experiencing something new or scary and not being able to articulate what is happening. The repetition of these lines in the chorus signifies the weight of these feelings.
Then, the last verse suggests that technology’s pervasive influence is so subtle that we wouldn't believe it, "it's true," portraying that the influence of technology is something we don’t notice, but regardless it has become an integral part of us.
Overall, the lyrics of "So Haunted," although not overly complicated, highlight the possibility that the technology we have developed can often consume us. We cannot switch off and forget about what we have created or how it influences us. Instead, our fascination with technology creates a world that is often all-consuming, leaving a trace, always whispers into our ears or translating our actions. The song's notions of being haunted accentuate that this power has the ability to control us, and it is something we have to consider.
