It began in 2001 as the project for Dan Whitford. In 2003, Whitford recruited a band, and in 2005 toured internationally for the first time, visiting London, New York and Los Angeles. They have played with international acts Franz Ferdinand, TV on the Radio, Pretty Girls Make Graves and Junior Senior, amongst others. Cut Copy is signed to the record label Modular in Sydney.
In 2004, Cut Copy released their debut album Bright Like Neon Love. The music is written and produced by frontman Dan Whitford, who is also a graphic designer and DJ. Cut Copy released three singles from this album: "Saturdays," "Future," and "Going Nowhere."
They also released a Fabriclive album featuring a mix of several synth/retro/elektropop songs such as (for example) MSTRKRFT and New Young Pony Club.
Their second album, In Ghost Colours, was released in 2008. Four singles were issued: "So Haunted," "Hearts on Fire," "Lights and Music," and "Far Away."
In 2011, Cut Copy released their third album, Zonoscope, which included the singles "Where I'm Going," "Take Me Over," and "Need You Now." Zonoscope marked the addition of bassist and synthesist Ben Browning to the Cut Copy lineup, making the group a four-piece. Browning had previously supported the band as a touring musician throughout the In Ghost Colours Tour.

This Is All We've Got
Cut Copy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Oh, just a little bit, everywhere you ever been
To drift along, to make us feel
Search for someone, a lover serene
This is all we've got
'Til we find our way back home
This is all we've got
This is all we've got
'Til we find our way back home
This is all we've got
'Til we find our way back home
Getting drunk and getting high
[Incomprehensible] through the night
This is all we've got
'Til we find our way back home
This is all we've got
'Til we find our way back home
This is all we've got
'Til we find our way back home
This is all we've got
'Til we find our way back home
Oh, hide your eyes from the sun
'Cause the light, it shines to bright
As we bid farewell to night, it's morning
Oh, ease us down to the ground
'Cause the ecstasy's over
And it tunes us to our lives again
Lost in the fun just for now
'Cause the stereo, it beats
Drink and talk about the street that's waking
Oh, does that surprise you at all?
Is the light extensible and it lights the morning sky
And suddenly I'm struck
By the beauty of this moment
Just close as friends we love
For a moment, it's seems so
Just take us home
Just take us home
The song "This Is All We've Got" by Cut Copy is a reflection of the simple pleasures in life and being present in the moment. The opening lyrics, "Hole inside, you fall out, Oh, just a little bit, everywhere you ever been," suggest that there's a void that can't be filled with anything except for perhaps the experiences that we encounter in life. "To drift along, to make us feel" implies that sometimes it's necessary to go with the flow and allow ourselves to be affected by our surroundings. The line "Search for someone, a lover serene" alludes to the quest for finding someone to share these experiences with.
The chorus, "This is all we've got 'til we find our way back home," emphasizes the importance of living in the moment and cherishing what we have right now. The verses following the chorus describe moments of fun and carefree living, "getting drunk and getting high", "lost in the fun just for now." These moments are temporary and fleeting, but they can provide a sense of escape from reality.
As the song progresses, there's a shift in tone from a lighthearted approach to a more somber one. The line, "hide your eyes from the sun, 'cause the light, it shines too bright," suggests that reality can be overwhelming at times. The lyrics "ease us down to the ground 'cause the ecstasy's over, and it tunes us to our lives again" illustrate the struggle to balance the highs and lows of life.
In the final verse, the lyrics "Oh, does that surprise you at all? Is the light extensible and it lights the morning sky," suggest that even in the mundane, there's beauty to be found. The closing lines "Just take us home, just take us home" imply a longing for a place of comfort and familiarity.
Overall, "This Is All We've Got" is a reminder to savor the present and appreciate the simple moments in life.
