In 1995, Jean Michel, Nono and Christian left their previous band, Seventeen. The 3 guys had already noticed Declan singing in pubs in Cork and were impressed, but the band didn’t get together then. The O’Shea brothers went to work in Euro Disney in France, but luckily on one of their home journeys the lads finally got together. Cyclefly was formed. At first the band was called Dogabone, and they released a EP in 1995 under this name. It was in 1997 that they changed their name to Cyclefly after being inspired by one of Declan’s paintings.
In 1999, Cyclefly released their debut album, Generation Sap and made their live debut at Whiskey on the Sunset Strip. In 2002 their second album, Crave, was released.
Christian and Declan Set up "Mako." and released their debut album "Living on Air" in 2010

King for A Day
Cyclefly Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When I always miss it.
Avoiding all because I'm,
Wishing all my troubles away,
Wishing all my troubles away.
How can I miss, this empty kiss,
When I, swallow it.
Destroying all because I'm,
Wishing all my troubles away,
Wishing all my troubles away.
King for a day.
All because you, came crashing in,
And fading out, sometimes it's hard,
To let it out.
Came crashing in and fading out,
Sometimes it's hard to let it out.
King for a day.
Wishing all my troubles away,
King for a day.
Wishing all my troubles away,
King for a day,
All because I'm, wasting all my wishes away.
A king for a day,
All because you, came crashing in,
And faded out,
Sometimes its hard to let it out.
Came crashing in, and fading out,
Sometimes its hard to let it out.
The lyrics of Cyclefly's "King For A Day" seem to be about the cycle of wanting to escape from problems and finding temporary relief through something fleeting, but ultimately realizing that the problems are still there and the escape is only temporary. The first two lines speak of a broken wish and an empty kiss that are missed and swallowed, respectively. These lines suggest a sense of hopelessness and frustration in trying to fix things that have already gone wrong. The next two lines speak of destroying everything and avoiding all as a means to wish away troubles. This indicates a pattern of running away from problems without actually solving them, which only exacerbates the situation.
The chorus brings in the title phrase "King For A Day," which suggests that the temporary escape from reality provides a feeling of power and control. The singer seems to acknowledge that this escape is only temporary, but still willing to indulge in it by repeating "wishing all my troubles away." The next verse repeats the same pattern of crashing in and fading out, leading to the conclusion that it is difficult to express the underlying emotions and face the problems head-on. The final line of the song, "All because I'm wasting all my wishes away," is a self-aware realization that the desire to escape is ultimately futile and the energy spent on it could have been used in more productive ways.
