Ring Ring
Cymarron Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ring, ring, telephone ring, somebody said
Baby, what ya doin', I've been wonderin' where you been
Now and then I think about you and me
No use fightin' 'bout things we can't recall
It don't matter now at all
Just come on home, baby, we'll laugh and sing
We'll make love, let the telephone ring
Ring, ring, doorbell ring, baby, come on in
Got James Taylor on the stereo
I'm glad you come around, I've been feelin' down
Just talkin' to Tony and Mario
You know they make good conversation
Still it ain't no consolation
Cause I got love, baby
I'll give you some and if somebody comes
We'll let the doorbell ring
Said, ring, ring, golden ring around the sun
Around your pretty finger
Ring, ring voices ring with a happy tune
Anybody can be a singer
The sun come up across the city
I swear you never looked so doggone pretty
Hand in hand we'll stand upon the sand with the preacher man
Let the weddin' bells ring
Hand in hand we'll stand upon the sand with the preacher man
Let the weddin' bells ring

Hand in hand we'll stand upon the sand with the preacher man
Let the weddin' bells ring

Overall Meaning

The song "Rings" by Cymarron is a soulful ballad that explores themes of love, relationships, and forgiveness. The lyrics convey a sense of nostalgia and yearning as the singer reminisces about their past relationship with someone they still care deeply about. The song is divided into three verses, each of which focuses on a different kind of "ring."

The first verse opens with the sound of a ringing telephone. The singer answers to hear the voice of their former partner, who asks what they've been up to. The singer admits to thinking about their relationship "now and then," but also acknowledges that there's no point in fighting over things they can't remember. The singer invites their former partner to come home so they can "laugh and sing" and make love, letting the telephone ring unanswered.

The second verse begins with the sound of a doorbell ringing. The singer welcomes their former partner into their home, where they have James Taylor playing on the stereo. The singer admits to feeling down but is glad their former partner has come around. They remark that while they enjoy talking to other people, it's no consolation because they have love to give. If somebody comes knocking, they'll let the doorbell ring and continue to focus on each other.

The third and final verse opens with the sound of a golden ring around the sun. This verse takes on a more romantic and hopeful tone, as the singer envisions a future together with their former partner. They imagine exchanging "wedding rings" on the beach with the preacher man and letting the wedding bells ring. The singer is hopeful that they can move past their past disagreements and conflicts and start anew with their former partner.

Overall, the lyrics to "Rings" by Cymarron are heartfelt and poetic, invoking a sense of nostalgia for lost love and yearning for a second chance.

Ah yes, memories of 1971. It’s sad this song didn’t peak higher on the charts for Cymarron. I was 14 and loved this song so much. Now 63, I still never tire of hearing it. What a great time to be young! The music of the mid to late 60s and all through the 70s was an experience which will never be duplicated. It brings back so many memories.

God Bless the 1970's decade!!

Dave - I'm the same age, and I remember this song from the summer of 1971. It peaked at number 17 for the weeks ending Aug. 7th and 14th on the Billboard Top 40 Weekly, then dropped like a rock. While I prefer Lobo's cover from the summer of 1974, this was the original for me, and always will be.

True Story: This was the song my husband sang to me at our wedding. He knew it was one of my favourite songs. For 23 years we were best friends and finally out of nowhere he popped the question and I said yes and haven't regretted one day of our life together.

I like how this song blossoms from a doorbell ring to a wedding ring

I was playing golf today at the Cimarron Golf Course in Palm Springs, CA. and thought about this song. It just popped into my head toward the end of my round and I couldn't get it out of my head. When I got home about 15 minutes, I looked it up on You Tube. It put a huge smile on my face. This is such a terrific record from 50+ years ago and was one of my late wife's favorite songs.

I had just finished the 6th grade when this song was a hit. I loved it so much that I bought the 45 with babysitting money. The lyrics and arrangement to this song are so beautiful. I had a best friend named Faith who loved the song, too. Sadly, we didn't know it would be her last June on earth. She was stricken with leukemia that month and died the next March 4th at 12. This song make me feel nostalgic for the good times we had.

We're the same age. Sorry for the loss of your friend. Lots of tough memories from that era, but songs like this, and the passage of time, help smooth out those bumps, a little.

@billct2

This song was a constant on the radio in the summer of '71... on vacation in NH, driving from the lake to the beach picked up a couple hitchikers. Went with them to an island off the Mass/NH coastline. Hung out with them at their cottage and the neigbor girl came by and I was so smitten by her, it was unbelievable. Her last name was Ring. The two are forever linked in a very happy memory.
