Change of Heart
Cyndi Lauper Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Here I am
Just like I said I would be
I'm your friend
Just like you think it should be
Did you think I would stand here andlie
As our moment was passing us by
Oh I am here
Waiting for your change of heart
It just takes a beat
To turn it around
Yes I'm waiting for you change of heart
At the edge of my seat
Please turn it around

Days go by
Leaving me with a hunger
I could fly
Back to when we were younger
When adventures like cars we would ride
And the years lied ahead still untried
While I stand here

Waiting for your change of heart...

Blind leading blind
Never hear the laughter
Search through time
Nothing reveals the answer
If it's truth that you're looking to find
It is nowhere outside of your mind
I bide my time

Waiting for you change of heart...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Change of Heart" by Cyndi Lauper represent a plea from someone who is waiting for their lover to have a change of heart and return to them. The opening lines emphasize the singer's steadfastness and loyalty to the other person, even if they have been separated. The singer is waiting for the other person to change their mind and come back, to rekindle the connection they used to have. There is hope, but at the same time, an underlying anxiety and desperation that comes from being in limbo, waiting without knowing if the other person will ever come back. The tension builds up as the lyrics continue, with the singer expressing their hunger and longing to return to the past when they were happy and free.

The second verse shifts the focus to the disillusionment and confusion that can arise when we search for answers in the wrong places. The metaphor of "blind leading blind" implies that no one knows what they are doing, and so the singer is left searching for meaning on their own. However, the singer realizes that true answers are within and that searching for them outside of one's mind will lead to further disappointment. The theme of waiting persists throughout the song, suggesting that even though waiting for someone else to change their mind can be painful, it is an act of love that can be transformative if they do come back.

I remember in college (Ahhh,... fun times!.. 😌) I was taking a music appreciation course, and we studied Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Duke Ellington, and... Cyndi Lauper.

Wait!... What?... Cyndi Lauper???!!!...
Yeah!... Cyndi Lauper!...
Not Madonna, Prince, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, Leona Lewis, or any of the other 100,000+ other "Pop-Stars" that are out there. ...
We studied... Cyndi Lauper!...
Because, not only did she have an incredible vocal range,... but she wrote and produced practically all her music!...

Such an incredibly talented woman!... 😊

Her music was before my time,... hence I had to go back, and research her music (listen to)!...
And, because of that exposure that I had to her music,... I became a HUGE fan of her's!... 😊

This song is not only The Best of Cindy, it is The Best of the 80’s, criminally underrated. I recorded it back then in Cassette, 1985 or 86. UNIQUE! Thank You Cindy, it’s been more than 23 years without listening to this 💎 gem. Tears and full attention to see this video for the first time. You were better than Madonna

100% right on the money. Call the "underrated song" police 'cause we got an all-timer classic that somehow seems forgotten and overlooked. But not by all, this one is on heavy rotation in my house on this fabulous Friday :-)

I agree on it being underrated. I thought for sure it would go #1 but it stalled at #3 in Feb, 1987. Love the song and melody.

You're right about Cyndi, but in the 80's when I went through basic training, all I heard over the radio was Madonna, she was about the best I've heard at the time, but when I got stationed in Germany in 1983, I thought where was Cyndi when I was going through basic, because I immediately fell in love with Cyndi after hearing her sing. I don't think one is better than the other, because they both sing different styles of music. Just my opinion, they are both at the top of my list for listening to.

Mucho mejor que Madonna💓

So underrated …. To the point of insulting . It actually angers me . She is HALL OF FAME material.
