She Bop
Cyndi Lauper Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wehell I see them every night in tight blue jeans
In the pages of a Blue Boy magazine
Hey I've been thinking of a new sensation
I'm picking up good vibration
Ooh she bop, she bop

Do I want to go out with a lion's roar
Huh, yea, I want to go south and get me some more
Hey, they say that a stitch in time saves nine
They say I better stop or I'll go blind
Ooh she bop, she bop

She bop he bop and we bop
I bop you bop and they bop
Be bop be bop a lu bop
I hope he will understand
She bop he bop and we bop
I bop you bop and they bop
Be bop be bop a lu she bop
Ohh ohh she do she bop

Hey, hey they say I better get a chaperon
Because I can't stop messin' with the danger zone
Hey, I won't worry, and I won't fret
Ain't no law against it yet, oh she bop, she bop

She bop he bop and we bop
I bop you bop and they bop
Be bop be bop a lu bop
I hope he will understand
She bop he bop and we bop
I bop you bop and they bop
Be bop be bop a lu she bop
Ohh ohh she do she bop

She bop he bop and we bop
I bop you bop and they bop
Be bop be bop a lu bop
I hope he will understand
She bop he bop and we bop
I bop you bop and they bop
Be bop be bop a lu she bop

Ohh ohh she did it she bop
Ohh ohh she dif it she bop

Overall Meaning

Cyndi Lauper's "She Bop" is a playful and light-hearted song about masturbation. The lyrics talk about the singer's desire for a new sensation and the feeling of picking up good vibrations. It also features lines such as "Hey, they say that a stitch in time saves nine, they say I better stop or I'll go blind" which are references to the fear of masturbation causing blindness that was prevalent in the past. Additionally, the "dangerous zone" referred to in the third verse may also be a reference to female sexuality which was often considered taboo.

The song is notable for its catchy chorus which features multiple variations of "she bop, he bop, we bop" and its use of a doo-wop style refrain in the bridge. The light-hearted and upbeat nature of the song has made it a popular choice for dance parties and is considered one of Lauper's signature hits. It is also notable for its music video which features Lauper and her band performing the song in a retro diner setting with a choreographed dance routine.

Madonna may have gotten the popularity but Cindi Lauper was the OG of pushing the envelope and she is one hell of an artist!!

@ers-tj4to

Yup! Madonna probably had this song in mind when she performed Like a Virgin in 1990.😮😂

@eyetech08

@@ers-tj4to You hit that 💯💯!!

@eyetech08

@@ers-tj4to She's amazing in Rodger Waters The Wall: Live in Berlin!!
It's here on YT. You may already know being a fan and all, but if you dont....check her out live in Berlin. She's LEGENDARY!!!

@bulcyob

Hated her growing up as my mother played her incessantly. She emulated her and Madonna so much. She passed away in February of this year.. We were estranged for years But going through all these 80s bangers remind me of a time she was so carefree and full of hope. Crazy how music brings back such nostalgia. Its so healing. ♥ I love 80s music! 😍

@rexdv8

Who here prefers Cyndi Lauper's voice over Madonna's in the 80s?

@SheriFromDetroit

@Pauldjreadman

Both different.

@amberbante8605

I find it funny that my grandmother didn't allow me to listen to Madonna, but Cyndi, George Michael, Prince, and Michael Jackson were ok.
