Born in Queens, New York to Swiss German-American Fred Lauper and Sicilian Italian-American Catrine Dominique, she began her career in a cover band, but soon began performing her own songs (though she almost quit singing altogether due to strained vocal chords in 1977). By 1980 she'd released a rockabilly album on Polydor with the band Blue Angel. Despite much critical acclaim, the album "went lead," as Lauper says, and the band split as Lauper filed for bankruptcy.
In 1983 she started dating her manager David Wolff with whom she released She's So Unusual, a worldwide hit album which made Lauper a household name. A mixture of teen-friendly pop-rock and edgier, almost punky sounds, the album's biggest hit, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, quickly established itself as a female anthem. Lauper won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards of 1984 for her work on the album. Lauper was the first female artist to have four consecutive Hot 100 Top 5 hits from one album.
Subsequent albums (such as True Colors, A Night to Remember, Hat Full of Stars) did not sell as well, but Lauper remains active to the present day and still retains a very strong fan base.
Lauper's latest album Memphis Blues was released in June 2011, premiering at #1 on the Billboard Blues Album Chart where it remained for 14 consecutive weeks. The album also reached #26 on the Billboard Top 200, and was later named the Billboard Blues Album of the year, also earning Lauper a Grammy nomination. This brought her total Grammy nominations to 13 with one win.

I gave you all of my money
Time after time
You done me wrong
Just like a train
Let all my friends come over and eat
You were so strange
You didn't have the decency to change the sheets
I use to let you wear all my clothes
You were so fine
Maybe that's the reason that it hurt me so
I know, that you're goin' with another guy
I don't care, 'cause I love you baby that's no lie
I love you more mine than I did when you were mine
When you were mine
You were kindasorta my best friend
So I was blind
I let you fool around
I never cared
I never was the kind to make a fuss
When he was there
Sleepin' in between the two of us
I know, that you're goin with another guy
I don't care, 'cause I love you baby that's no lie
I love you more than I did when you were mine
When you were mine
You were all I ever wanted to do
Now I spend my time
Following him whenever he's with you
I know that you're goin' with another guy
I don't care because I love you baby that's no lie, ah
I love you more than I did when you were mine
Ah I love you more than I did when you were mine
Ah oh oh whoa I love you more than I did when you were mine
Ah oh oh whoa I love you more, I love you more when you were mine
Ah ah oh oh oh I love you more, I love your more, I love you more, I love you more
I love you more than when you were mine
Ah oh oh
The song When You Were Mine, written by Prince and famously covered by Cyndi Lauper, is a story of a love triangle gone wrong. The singer sings to an ex-lover who cheated on him with another man. He reminisces about their past together when she was his, including how generous he was with her, giving her his money and clothes. He also mentions her strange behavior, such as not changing the sheets after having friends over. Despite her infidelity and the pain it caused him, he still loves her and is willing to overlook her flaws and be with her again.
The lyrics suggest a sense of longing and betrayal. The singer is hurt by the fact that his lover left him for another man, but he still loves her and cannot let go of their past. The line "I love you more than I did when you were mine" indicates that he still has deep feelings for her, even though he is no longer with her. The bittersweet tone of the song captures the complexities of human emotions and the difficulties of moving on from a past love.

Time After Time - Lisa Wahlandt - Lyrics
Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick
And think of you
Caught up in circles
Confusion is nothing new
Flashback, warm nights
Almost left behind
Suitcases of memories
Time after
Sometimes you picture me
I'm walking too far ahead
You're calling to me, I can't hear
What you've said
Then you say, go slow
I fall behind
The second hand unwinds
If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I'll be waiting
Time after time
If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I will be waiting
Time after time
After my picture fades and darkness has
Turned to gray
I’m watching through windows
And you're wondering if I'm okay
Secrets stolen from deep inside
The drum beats out of time
If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I'll be waiting
Time after time
If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I'll be waiting
Time after time
Musical Interlude
If you're lost you can look and you will really, really really, really really find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I know that I will be waiting
Time after time
Time after time
Hold on, hold on…..
Time after time
Time after time
Time after time
Time after time……..
