Born in Queens, New York to Swiss German-American Fred Lauper and Sicilian Italian-American Catrine Dominique, she began her career in a cover band, but soon began performing her own songs (though she almost quit singing altogether due to strained vocal chords in 1977). By 1980 she'd released a rockabilly album on Polydor with the band Blue Angel. Despite much critical acclaim, the album "went lead," as Lauper says, and the band split as Lauper filed for bankruptcy.
In 1983 she started dating her manager David Wolff with whom she released She's So Unusual, a worldwide hit album which made Lauper a household name. A mixture of teen-friendly pop-rock and edgier, almost punky sounds, the album's biggest hit, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, quickly established itself as a female anthem. Lauper won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards of 1984 for her work on the album. Lauper was the first female artist to have four consecutive Hot 100 Top 5 hits from one album.
Subsequent albums (such as True Colors, A Night to Remember, Hat Full of Stars) did not sell as well, but Lauper remains active to the present day and still retains a very strong fan base.
Lauper's latest album Memphis Blues was released in June 2011, premiering at #1 on the Billboard Blues Album Chart where it remained for 14 consecutive weeks. The album also reached #26 on the Billboard Top 200, and was later named the Billboard Blues Album of the year, also earning Lauper a Grammy nomination. This brought her total Grammy nominations to 13 with one win.

What knob makes it stop
Time to be aware
Time to just be there
You go, go , go, go,
I go, go , go, go,
Conversations rare
Trail off in the air
All that rolls our way
Wheels that time will play
Happiness grows back
Heartache leaves a scratch
You go, go, go,go,
I go, go, go , go
Everyplace I go
Never told you so
Echo, echo, home, home
[Chorus]
All of my days, all of my life
Standing by you
All of my days, all of my life
I will find you
All of my days, all of my life
Standing by you
All of my days all of my life
Landing next to you
When you're on the top
Notice what you've got
I will be your frail
When your on the trail
You go, go, go, go
I go, go, go, go
Everything you know
Everywhere you go
Echo, echo, home, home
[Chorus: x2]
I go back back back
You go from the top
Once till we drop
Never like to stop
In Cyndi Lauper's song Echo, the singer wakes up to the sound of an alarm clock and contemplates the passing of time. They realize that while they go about their busy schedule, conversations with loved ones become a rarity, trails off like echoes that fade away. The song reflects on the ups and downs of life, recognizing that happiness can grow and heartache can leave a mark. The singer promises to stand by their loved one through thick and thin, always ready to be their support system.
The song's lyrics focus on the importance of valuing our relationships and understanding the fleeting nature of life. The metaphor of echoes is used throughout the song, emphasizing the idea that our words and memories can fade away like sounds bouncing off walls. The chorus repeats the lyrics, "All of my days, all of my life, standing by you, I will find you," conveying the unconditional love and devotion of the singer. The final line, "I go back back back, you go from the top, once till we drop, never like to stop," reinforces the idea that life is a journey that we take together, constantly moving forward, even when facing challenges.

Time After Time - Lisa Wahlandt - Lyrics
Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick
And think of you
Caught up in circles
Confusion is nothing new
Flashback, warm nights
Almost left behind
Suitcases of memories
Time after
Sometimes you picture me
I'm walking too far ahead
You're calling to me, I can't hear
What you've said
Then you say, go slow
I fall behind
The second hand unwinds
If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I'll be waiting
Time after time
If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I will be waiting
Time after time
After my picture fades and darkness has
Turned to gray
I’m watching through windows
And you're wondering if I'm okay
Secrets stolen from deep inside
The drum beats out of time
If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I'll be waiting
Time after time
If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I'll be waiting
Time after time
Musical Interlude
If you're lost you can look and you will really, really really, really really find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I know that I will be waiting
Time after time
Time after time
Hold on, hold on…..
Time after time
Time after time
Time after time
Time after time……..
