La Mer is a song lyrically expressing the ethereal beauty of the sea that sways along the clear gulfs with its silvery reflections. The sea is something that shifts and changes like the silver reflections that glow below its surface in the pouring rain. The sky of summer blends with the whiteness of the sheep, like the color of the water in its depths, after its frothy waves have been stilled. The sea is infinity to the people who span the expanse of the vistas of the world. In the second stanza, with the wetlands of grand reeds, we see the freshwater marshy areas adjacent to the seashore, where white birds wade through the wetlands that are home to salty, coastal plants. The red-rusted houses surrounding them juxtapose the cleanliness and tranquility of the area.
