This is the perfect universal start no matter you skill. It doesn't require you to commit to build in one spot. If you build in a spot and you change your mind or its too dangerous, you can't move your base. Though with house boat you can move your base, and you can build most buildings on it.

Love your The forest videos! Can’t wait to see what adventures await for this season. Also, I honestly don’t know what I’m doing wrong but I cannot get my dang strength up. I have no clue my tree count and I’ve tried just tnting when I need wood and eating of course but it won’t seem to raise. I do notice if I over eat a bit it goes up? Maybe I’m not taking in enough calories? I try to burn less then what I eat, and I notice when I start burning more that’s obviously when strength takes a hit. I might start making stews and really bulking on the calories and see if that helps. Anyways, I look forward to this season. Your videos are just always visually gorgeous and so entertaining. :) awesome work.

I've actually played with throwing the spear when it comes to throwing it! I've played with it and it's pretty consistent. If its bigger than your finger go down a bit. If its smaller go up a tiny bit, but if you want consistency (and trust me, you do) make sure they're bigger than your finger. I've lost my spears so many times going for the distance (I only use it on weak spears).

I was looking through videos of this game, it was so hard to find someone who was chill, not annoying and actually was good at the game finally found you lol :D I have a question does cutting down trees effect the amount of enemy's that spawn, cause I did not know at day 7 the armsies spawn and I pooped my pants not knowing that they were going to spawn so early, I had only build a campfire and a treehouse (after watching your videos I won't be building anymore treehouses) lol so yeah could you make a video explaining how they spawn etc and what days to watch out for ?

Day 7 mutants spawn so you have to watch out for day 7, and if you build a fire a couple of cannibals will check it out once then no more but you still have to watch out for enemies

This is exactly how I begin my every new game! I load my boathouse with as much stuff as I can, here is what I usually do:

Place two water collectors exactly where you placed them in the video. Inside, as you enter from the door to the right, I can fit 4-5 meat dryers and place a fire under them. Then to the left of that I place a log thing that you can display weapons on or an armor stand. To the left as you enter the houseboat, there is a small chunk of wall on the left before you proceed to the room with the window on the side of the door, stick a large display for food and stuff, and before you complete it, stick a couple bone bowls under it. Now in the said room with the window, on the opposite wall of said window, stick a small display thing (10 slots) and before you complete it build a bed below it. Fill the rest of the boat as you like.

Sorry for forgetting the names for the things, and sorry for being confusing as im not the best with explaining in words c: if there are any questions ill do my best to answer them.

Question: I just started playing this game, on normal, and unlike your video, cannibals are "everywhere", yet you didn't run into a single one. How is that possible without being in Vegan mode? The only enemies you ran into were planned underground and you basically sought them out. No play-through of the game so far has seen the world empty of enemies, completely. How did you accomplish this?

I've played this game for a few weeks now and I recently made a new solo survival and I got the modern axe and the katana and a slung shot on my first day :)

The cave was so easy for me to get lost in. Ended up clearing the area, doubled back to finally find the axe, somehow got lost again, and ended up finding my way out at the main village with the compass and map.

Just got the game, this is very a very good vid with lots of great tips. I didn't do to bad, I survived 5 days my first time playing. I built a tree house and then worked on building a log cabin close to my tree house. It i nice to know now where the Axe is , the one you start off with is really a pain to use..Set up some traps. But having tools from the start would of helped alot.

I hjave a question - Me personlly when I was in that cave had all almost dark everything and get lost easily, that lighter didn´t do much job but on your video You can see almost everything in caves. Hi mate just a couple questions to help improve my gameplay on The Forest, how do you fast pick up/place with E ? and also your inventory system - it shows the crafting recipes without having to hover over the "cog wheel" ? Might be due to the time difference of your post and my comment and updates were made on the invent, but the fast pick up/place looks great!

My camp is close to the Modern Ax cave. I have been exploiting that cave by reloading and making multiple trips. I built catapults to store dynomite. If you make enough trips you will get ambushed though by some tough cannibals, and seems like the dynomite stopped spawning. It is a really good way to get cloth from the suitcases soda, duct tape modern arrows, circuit boards, and medicine in the cave too.

I just started this game recently and though ive seen you Farket, Markiplier, and Neebs gaming series on this before, I honestly never played it and didnt bother to remember anything about the game. Needless to say I should have paid attention more. I built my base at the shipping container beach and let me just say, it is horrible! It is so hard to collect resources because of the patrols and attacks and I have legit had three cannibal raids in one day with parties as high as 8 of them! Ive had two armsys come attack in the same day too. I can maybe get two log carts a day chopped and loaded back to base if I'm lucky, otherwise I'm running and fighting. I brought them to my base once as well and quickly realized after the armsy destroyed my whole base that I shouldn't fight from my base unless traps are up, so I usually run and hide about four times a day in a shipping container as I fight several cannibals from inside it and through the walls.

Have only just recently purchased this game after following another players stream for a while, and I have to say you're videos are wonderfully useful and smart in the process. Having a real idea of a priorities list is vital to me. My brain just usually short circuits in open world games and I end up with several dozen partial starts before making anything like a real go at it. This helps a lot. :)

I usually do the same, except I build small raft instead and place a bed, water collector, tanning rack and a stick holder there. I know it sounds weird but you can fit it all on the raft and still have some place to stand, and even build a simple fire. This way you don't have to cut a lot of trees and go to the caves right from the start. Although you will need to hunt rabbits for the bed, and that might be a little hard at the beginning.

A friend and I started a fort right by the yacht on those 2 rocks and now we have a huge fort it's got 5 levels a wall around everywhere on the beach with boxed in traps for heavies to capture them

Building in the Field at 2:50 is a great place if you want some difficulty in multiplayer, 3-4 attacks per day, usually one or two mutants per day, alot of fun.

I'm really late, obviously, but I've built my recent base in one of the clumps of trees in the area you talk a bit about at around 3:00, (yes, i know i should've cleared them in the case of an armsy, but it looks cool), and I'm currently on Day 12 and have not had any cannibal attacks. There seems to be a route just behind me between Lakeside Village and someplace else, but they've never come near my base. However it could just be because I'm playing in normal, who knows. All I'm saying is I've had some pretty decent luck there! Great spot for rabbits and birds as well. Water's relatively close if you need it, and the Hanging Cave, once cleared, makes it a nice spot.

Usually my start consists of getting the torch/katana, then I go to the main village and grab alcohol and the map, then walk down through the caves until I reach the cave with the rope to grab the modern axe, and that leads to the beach where you can grab the pot and save at the boat. From there I usually get bored that I've found everything I need, and usually restart my save XD Your first day is similar to mine!

Haha, I use to do starts like that. Getting everything at once does that aye. It’s made me rethink weapon runs for that reason, too much at once.
Though I wanted to design a simple start that was simple to follow that even new players could follow. Hopefully this fits the bill

I just started playing this game holy shit playing solo I’m already on day 28 shit is getting crazy. Your channels been very helpful as the base I built was nice but I didn’t even know how to craft custom houses or two-story houses and Cabins.
Edit: I forgot to mention I’m playing it on the PlayStation for now and even the PC version of a few months ago I never saw anything that had to do with calories. Did they take that away?

Raft > house boat.

You can build everything you need on a raft without any of the awkward steering, it’s easier to push across land and it’ll go through the lakes and rivers.

You should have picked up the map and compass in the same cave where the modern axe was, if you ran down the corridor where you burned the cannibal corpses you would have ended up at the map & compass, and a little bit further would be another exit.

But how the hell did you make it so you can actually see a damn thing in the caves?

Just curious, are there any issues with continuing on an old save? I have two saves each with more than 300 days but didn't play for a long time. Think last time i played the game was 0.60 or something. I know starting fresh is always the best way to go, just wanna know if i'd run into trouble with my old games. Yeah, cause they adjusted the strength system, the strengths were reset. Just ensure your calories are higher than the calories you have burned. (less it is over the less weight you gain)

What i'm mostly concerned about is the new calories system. My guys athleticism is at 99 and strength is at 20! Lol 😁 think i'm goin to start a new game. He actually spawned/crashed near the main cannibal village at the south east part of the map which is considered the best place to crash for me. If it was me i would immediately head to that village and start looting stuff cos there likely will be no cannibals spawning there at day 1. And the entrance to cave 2 is also there where you can get the modern axe really early on, but you will have to kill like 3-4 pale cannibals so skinning a few lizards for lizard armor would be smart. Also there is a cliff nearby which is sorrounded by boulders where you can head down and there will be a beach where turtles spawn, that beach is isolated and it is also one of the safest places to build in the forest.

Beginner TIP learned the HARD way:
Logs lying on the ground disappear when you SAVE/RESTART. I had gone 3-4 days between saves and had dropped quite a few trees and dragged the logs to the beach for their future use. They piled up day after day. I saved and slept. Restarted and woke up to an EMPTY beach! WTF
Logs on the sled up the hill remained. Oh joy! 12 logs

Dont worry, once I threw probably close to 70 logs over the side of the beach to build, walked away to grab two more, walkrd back and all my logs were gone! I walked five steps away, didnt log off or anything. All my logs disappeared. I was piiiiiissed.

Then do as i do, cheat. Farket has a good video explaining console commands, then you can get unlimited logs, and after you have got as much as you lost because of the save/load then you can shut the cheat of.

I used to live in one of these, it was fun moving from one side of the island to the other🤣

The game is simply too difficult (normal or survival mode (doesn't matter) which I think there is no difference except lowered resources). In day 14, I haven't started discovering any caves or story yet or building a base or etc. Cannibals are everywhere and too aggressive even in fertile lands or any other safe area. I had to build a boat house but when I step on to the shore for just a couple of minutes, 2-3 mutants (2 blue armsies, 1 cowman) and at least 5-6 cannibals(strong ones) are spawned immediately and attacking. I am not even on their patrol routes or didn't kill any single cannibal.
