Building the “coolest” or best shelter isnt a good idea for this show. FOOD daily is what wins.
This guy went out due to lack of nutrition and getting too weak.
Same with the girl jessie same season. Crazy shelter. Got too sick and weak from not prioritizing hunting.
Big elaborate shelters are awesome but calories win the show.
Adam from the same season also had a pretty awesome shelter…. But all he ate was a few spruce grouse throughout the weeks.
The people with the most simple shelters are the final people.
Look at survivorman les stroud. He doesnt build a giant decked out house. He builds what he needs. Something very basic and then prioritizes food gathering, water and hunting.
The guy who won had a nice shelter but it was simple and it didnt take him very long to build.
Not only that but starting weight is important. The winner purposely gained 30 lbs before the show. Even still, i think the simple shelter was also very important. The girl jessi’s shelter design was way too complicated. She lost 30 lbs before it was even finished being built.

Will it be as good as an axe? no.
but if you're allowed a saw you can get wood that'll be easy for it to split anyway
