Give It Up
D-Block Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Keeping me off of the old track
Try and take showers in Prozac
Just to see how fast
I close the door to the past
I used to be looking for a reason
I used to have time to explain
Now I'm going to fast for conditions
If it's a good day to give it up
Then I surrender
Call it a day and call the cops
Repeat offender...
Never had trouble with balance
Wasn't a thing I couldn't fit
I used to be up for the challenge
From a hero a monster to a great piece of shit
If it's a good day to give it up
Then I surrender
Call it a day and call the cops
Repeat offender...
If it's a good day to give it up,
If there was someone to make me stop,
If there's a good way to call it off
Then I surrender....
Do you still take part yeah do you still have dreams in this frozen state
You're robbed of a future that always yeah always arrives too late...
The lyrics of D-Block's song Give It Up depict the struggles of an individual who is trying to change his life. The person had a past that includes some sort of problem or addiction and is trying to leave it all behind now. They mention that someone suggested a new start, but it is difficult to leave behind the old habits that have become a part of their life. The person is trying to take measures to forget the past, like taking Prozac showers, just to see how fast they can close the door to the past.
The person describes how they used to look for reasons and had time to explain, but now they're going too fast to think about consequences, going too fast to slow down, let alone change. They seem to have lost control of their life, and the fastest they go, the more they lose direction. The lyrics suggest that the person is in desperate need of a change in their life. They admit that they never had trouble with balance and that everything they tried was achievable, but now they have become a repeat offender, and possibly a great piece of shit.
The last lines are almost like a question that is directed towards the listener. They ask if the listener still takes part in the world or has dreams in this frozen state, a state where one's robbed of a future that arrives too late. In essence, the song is a cry for help and a recognition that one needs to change to progress in life.
