Decadent
D-plus Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I’m sick and tired of being Mister nice guy
No more bloody games no fooling around
I am like a rock and rolling forever
I’m what I am stop being a clown

Don’t hide it – Don’t fight it - I'm gonna turn it on
I'm burning – No turning - I give it all
I make the move – just make it right
I Make the move - I reach the sky

I don’t give a damn about Mister No one
I’m not gonna change stop dragging me down
Sinners take it all no time for losers
Right between the eyes still loud and proud

So you wanna be a bad boy
Just look at me

3:57 During the age of affluence... (I remember hearing that name before - Haroun al Raschid)

...O mariners, hoping still to meet
The luck Arabian voyagers met,
And find in Bagdad’s moonlit street,
Haroun al Raschid walking yet,

Take with you, on your Sea of Dreams,
The fair, fond fancies dear to youth.
I turn from all that only seems,
And seek the sober grounds of truth...

@Dissent View I'm not entirely sure I understand what point you're trying to make. The premise of the fate of empires seems to be that the fall of said empires directly correlates to out groups attempting to insinuate themselves inside of in groups. Yet you say that is merely a symptom, but not the cause. Then what is the cause? I posit that it is the supposed cause as laid out by the book. It's the desire to stay static in a dynamic environment that is ultimately the cause of the fall. In groups, whether they be based on religion, political ideology, social ideology etc. Inherently will create out groups. And the attempts to maintain the status quo is what leads to the demise of the empires based on said ideologies.

The point you make about Julius Ceaser only goes to lead credence to my postulate. He was in the out group, and he insinuated himself into the in group forcefully. Then he became the new in group, and thus created new out groups that ultimately lead to his assassination.

The main point I'm trying to relay here is that you cannot build an empire based on in groups and out groups, because the in group will always try to hold on to the power they wield and the out groups will always try to take it. That's just basic human greed, and it can't be anymore controlled than the tides. A truly lasting empire will have to make it's primary goal to create a system that does not lead itself into he formation of the groups, by truly dividing the power up among every constituent part of itself. Of course there in lies the problem, how is that even possible. Because doing that will lead to endless arguments and debates on how to accomplish anything.

I feel as if the book is essentially saying this, but is framing it in such a way as to not truly come out and say it. Because the author himself was in one of the most powerful in groups of all time, the British empire.

The other points in the book about the lack of concern or regard for the community as opposed to the individual is spot on. Especially in relation to today's society. People have become hyper focused on themselves, as individual in groups, and less concerned about the well being of others, percieved out groups. It's become a very "screw you, get mine" mindset as of late, and that will truly lead to fall of today's empires. But the assertion of power by those in power over those who aren't isn't the solution, but unfortunately, I can't speak as to what is a good solution.

@Near pod hahaha, hilarious victim complex as usual. You are always the victim and the white man is always the opressor, typical narrative and it shows the bias in your views. Let's work backwards, being against immigration isn't inherantly racist; every country can only support so many people, and over capacity will simply destroy that country - that is a numbers game, nothing to do with race. The nation state is also the land of the peoples who exist in it and as a result, they have the right to determine how many people you want into your nation - your arguement is derieved from marxist nonsense that is self-destructive and has never worked before. Also, if you want to add the race element, then yes, a nation has the right to determine it's own racial demographic integrity. White birth rates are on the decline, and we are being "replaced" by immigrants as stated by the UN and EU themselves, which under the UN declaration of genocide constitutes a form of genocide. We have the right to exist, and maintaining demographic integrity in our home countries is how we do that; to be against that is to support the genocide of white people, which I'm sure a racist like you is happy with; but I'm not and that doesn't make me "racist".

Secondly, the BBC is a propaganda agent, and the fact that you seem to be under the impression its neutral is laughable. Also, I'm not from England so the EDL source you claim I get my information from is also stupid.

Again, the British empire was not wholey good or evil; but you would try to spread the lie it was evil; because you hate white people and have to demonise every aspect of us and our history. I am aware there were many conflicts with the British and indigineuous people; however it was always straightforward as you seem to make it out to be. Many indigineuous people accepted the British and others willingly because there was much infighting between their own people long before the British ever arrived, and they welcomed the protection of the British state - as mentioned in the book above, once the British had colonialised an area, the people there enjoyed much peace as the empire prevented tribal warfare.

"the truth is if they never would've been colonised every country would be better for its inhabitants just like Japan is now"
First off, you realise Japan was an empire too right? Secondly, that is unequivocally wrong; if it wasn't for the colonial empres, many people across the world would still be living in tribal villages, constantly warring with each other, they never would have had access to medicine, technology, better education resources, trade and commerce, and much more. Again, you deliberately choose to ignore this because of YOUR racism toward whites and the porpaganda you have been fed against us. Is this to say that the British were perfect though? No, clearly not, many mistakes were indeed made, and yes, in some cases atrocities were commited - however, also recognise, that many of those native people were commiting atrocities against their own people long before the British ever arrived - thats just how history is.

"to your second point your so called civilizational improvements have worsened the state of just about every non-white majority country it encountered where corruption runs rampant "you may wish to say this is their own fault but truth is corruption is caused by many issues" and attributing the same people who started the Atlantic slave trade and along with the Spanish and Portuguese killed and enslaved are least ten million individual souls yes this genocida"
To start that point, the Spanish and Portugese were never empirical until the Islam empire invaded roughly around the 600-700's; otherwise, they probably never would have become colonial powers in their own right. Secondly, yes corruption is caused by many issues, but once again you try to squarely put the blame on white people because your racist. Many of the corruption issues faced in Africa right now are often caused by greedy politicians, who are indeed native to their own countries, one need only look at Zimbabwe or Idi Amin. And again, unless you want to make the arguement that living in tribal villages with no supplies of water, or elecriticty, or health care or any modern utlilities is somehow "better"; then no colonialism didn't make the nations it came to worse. As for the claim of theft; often the British would side with a tribe or collective over another, and the opposing side would be defeated in battle, as is normal, every where across the world, the losing side is often plundered - I'm not saying I agree with that, but it is an unfortunate side effect of war, and nothing unique to the British.

"yes history is that simple when you look at the scale of murder rape and plunder that was committed by the so called civilizers you sound like one of those "The white mans burdern'ers"
First off, no I'm not a "white mans burdoners"; I believe in taking responsibility for one's own actions, but that equally applies to you, but you don't seem to want to do it. And, once again you oversimplify history for your own ideological purposes; funny how you talk of scale of murder and rape, yet don't seem to apply that to any Arabic empires - arguably how have committed far greater atrocities to even blacks than whites ever did; and they continue to do so to this day - for example modern day slave trading of blacks in Libya.

"secondly if you hold the opinion that the British empire was good then so were the Nazis and Mousseline's Italians and the Hutu's of Rwanda and the soviets as they all in their minds "civilized a unruly peoples"
Thats just a complete false equivolancy, nothing to address there.

"firstly your second point I did not call you the racist atrocity ty causing individual I called the person in the video that and not the narrator but the army official"
I will grant that I made a mistake there and assumed you were talking about me. however I must also correct you on Sir John Glubb, the military officer you claim to be racists, as he made a very clear point near the end of his book, were he stated that he believed this to be the fate of all peoples at some point in their history, and that it shouldn't be used as an excuse to hate a specific group of people - in other words, he was quite clearly arguing against racism, but you made presumptions about him, based solely on YOUR racist bias.

Ever since I was a little kid I felt something was wrong with me. I wasn't interested in football teams. I could not stand shallow, frivolous jokes which were annoying instead of amusing me (they still do). I could not understand why people were so enthralled to know details from the lives of "celebrities" such as actors and singers (and still cannot). I had peculiar interests such as physics, technology and history, which were not shared by many others. I guess I was born in the wrong time, place or both.

“The fall of Empire, gentlemen, is a massive thing, however, and not easily fought. It is dictated by a rising bureaucracy, a receding initiative, a freezing of caste, a damming of curiosity—a hundred other factors. It has been going on, as I have said, for centuries, and it is too majestic and massive a movement to stop.”
