Eyes
D.A.G Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sometimes I wonder how I cope
When every time I open my mouth
You jump down my throat
And some nights the beds so cold
In frozen sheets
It's like we're lying at opposite poles
And I just don't know
What to do
Loosen my grip
Or take a tighter hold on you
Just remember
That you came looking for me
I didn't hunt in someone else's territory
You presented the opportunity
It was you who pursued me
Maybe you just needed the change
And got a kick out of playing the game
I know you don't like things that stay the same
So I guess you're not to blame
I suppose its my fault again

[Chorus]
Sometimes we don't see eye to eye
But I don't ask too many questions why
Sometimes we don't see eye to eye
But I don't ask too many questions why

Neither of us knew what to expect
What was gonna happen next
So we cherished every caress
Sorry I wasn't there
When you needed a rest
A shoulder to cry on
Moral support
Honestly
I always thought about you
And I hated the fact
We only had
Brief moments of contact
We'll survive and if we persevere
Then maybe this will last for years
I don't mean to exert pressure
I just wanna give
And receive pleasure
And if you're pouring
I'll have full measure
'cause it's you I'll treasure
Even if we're not together

[Chorus]

Even though these questions still remain
Time won't change a single thing
We're still playing all these selfish games
But I'd hate to hate you
Why do all the questions stay the same
Why do all you're answers cause me pain
Do I need to say it all again
I'd hate to hate you

[Chorus]

Look
I know we're not exactly Romeo and Juliet

But come on
I ain't nowhere near ready to quit on this yet

Overall Meaning

In D.A.G’s "Eyes," the singer expresses the complexity of his relationship with his partner. The song reflects on the ups and downs of their relationship and the challenges it faces. The relationship seems to be in a tough spot because every time the singer tries to communicate, his partner ‘jumps down his throat.’ The singer also expresses his confusion over his partner's intentions in the relationship. He is unsure whether to let go or to hold her tighter. However, he reminds his partner that she pursued him for the relationship, and he did not hunt in someone else’s territory.

The chorus of the song expresses the singer's belief that sometimes in relationships, the couple may not see eye to eye, but questions about why they don't agree on certain things should not be asked too much. The singer admits that they both did not know what to expect at the start of the relationship and cherished every moment they spent together. He also apologizes for not being there for her during her bad times, and in the end, he affirms his love for her despite being unsure of their fate as a couple.

Overall, through the lyrics of the song, D.A.G beautifully captures the complexities of emotions experienced in romantic relationships. The song appears to portray the singer's struggle with the uncertainty and the fear of the future of the relationship. The lyrics suggest that despite their issues, both partners want to make things work, even though they play ‘selfish games.’

My old funk guitarist turned me on to this band back in the mid 90's, I could never thank him ENOUGH!

@werm69

This has to be the most underrated band in musical history.

@wraith1117

Agreed. I remember hearing 'Lovely Jane' back in the 90's. Loved it and bought the CD. Which btw I thought was awesome. They did make a second, but it got no airplay for some reason. and then just were gone. Not sure what happened. But I had at the time, some high hopes for these guys. Even so. 'Righteous" is still a staple when the old crew get together.

@dawgboybinley6128

These guys were f#$king incredible. I saw them at a local bar in East lansing michigan (Rick's) in 1994 and They were just like how it sounds on the album. So damn tight. Bobby singing and playing the bass parts just as you hear them. It was insane. They didn't have their own sound guy, just hopped on the house system and destroyed.

@AlexTallitsch

One of the best songs ever.

@franckdevidal4429
