Hughley was born in Los Angeles, California, the son of Audrey and Charles Hughley, who was a Delta Air Lines maintenance worker.[1] He is the second of four children. He grew up in L.A.'s South Central where he was a member of the Bloods gang after getting kicked out of high school. However, he turned his life around after a cousin was shot. He quit the gang and got a job as a telemarketer for the Los Angeles Times, where he moved into management and met his wife-to-be. She was the one who convinced him to try his humor on stage. After years of club dates, he was selected by BET as the first host of "Comic View" and subsequently got additional recognition with two very adult oriented HBO specials.
Religion

Infiniment bonne
C'est toute ma religion
Les efforts que font les êtres
Pour trouver la vie belle
Sans qu'on vienne leur dicter
Une foi originelle
C'est toute ma religion
C'est toute ma religion
Toi qui me dis simplement
Combien j'existe pour toi
Toi qui arrives d'abord
À me faire croire en moi
C'est toute ma religion
The lyrics to D.L. Hughley's song "Religion" are in French, but their translation into English can be broadly summarized as follows: "My religion is not the one that focuses on counting faults and repentance. It is about seeing the kindness in people and the beauty of life without the need for a prescribed faith. It is about the efforts people make to find happiness and the impact that others can have on us, in affirming our own self-worth."
The song's lyrics express a philosophy that is similar to humanism, which posits that people can find meaning and purpose in life and the world around them, without invoking religion or a higher power. This perspective is also reflected in the song's reference to "an old forgotten dream" that has been resurrected by a collective movement towards compassion and empathy. Instead of relying on traditional religious dogma, the song encourages listeners to see the value in themselves and in others, whether they are believers or not.
One possible interpretation of the song is that it is a criticism of organized religion and its emphasis on sin, guilt, and atonement. The song urges listeners to look beyond these religious conventions and focus on the very human experiences of love, respect, and cooperation. The lyrics also suggest that one's own inner strength and worth can be affirmed through the love and support of others, without having to rely on religious faith.
