Dead Men Tell No Tales
D.O. Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

hey joe, remember that geek back in '83. yeah, i know that stiff, i'll see him in hell. he was in d.o.a., that's what they say. but he was never the same after the accident. it was kind of messy, he bled pretty bad. and the way he twitched, i thought he was mad. but i made sure, he wasn't in pain. when i backed up the van i squished him again. chorus: dead men tell no tales. dead men don't try blackmail, they smell bad and they're kind of pale. yes, dead men tell no tales. hey joe, what about that gig on the east coast. oh yeah, those slimeballs, the ones you wanted to toast. they ripped us off and stole our van. then they paid the cops, to throw us in the can. but i was out for a beer when i saw those two. i could see they were looking for a geek to screw. but down in the alley, i caught 'em alone. you couldn't hear the chainsaw, when they screamed and moaned. 2nd chorus: dead men tell no tales dead men don't try to blackmail. they can't rip ya off when they're 6 feet under dead men tell no tales. 1 down, 2 down, 3 down, 4 down, 5 down, 6 down, 7 down, 8 down, 9 down, 10 down (1st chorus) 3rd chorus: dead men tell no tales, dead men don't try blackmail, they can't trash your van or drink your beer.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to D.O.'s song Dead Men Tell No Tales are about two separate incidents where the singer seeks revenge against those who have wronged him. The first verse tells the story of a geek who the singer squished twice with a van because he believed the geek to have caused an accident that left him injured. The second verse is about two men who stole D.O.'s van and got the band arrested. The singer catches them in an alley and kills them both with a chainsaw.

The chorus of the song, "dead men tell no tales," is a common phrase used to imply that those who are silenced permanently cannot testify against their killer. The singer seems to take this phrase to heart as he seeks revenge on those who have wronged him. The lyrics also mention the idea that dead men cannot blackmail or steal from you, making them easier to deal with in the singer's eyes.

Overall, the lyrics paint a picture of a violent and vengeful narrator who is willing to go to extreme lengths to get justice for perceived wrongs. The lyrics are meant to be dark and disturbing, but also somewhat tongue-in-cheek, with the singer seeming to take a dark pleasure in his acts of violence.

"We ought to be allies!" "Considering where your left hand is, I'd say we're more than that."

That's one of the things I love about POTC. They can be serious and have really good jokes that are hilarious, unlike the stupid chessy one liners in marvel movies that aren't funny at all. Really sad this is the last one.

Johnny Deep must return, without him there are no pirates of the Caribbean. I like it for Disney to see, JOHNNY DEPP IS INNOCENT.

What happened?

@nyxldx a false accusation is the reason why they're cutting him off

nyxldx

@luis rosales yeah that's the reason. Amber basically ruined his name. It's gonna be hard to regain his image despite being innocent

Coming back to this so many years later. I wouldn't watch a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie without Johnny Depp, but I also don't think we need one. I loved the ending of this movie. Jack Sparrow sailed away as Captain of the Black Pearl, and Will and Elizabeth were finally reunited. It came full circle, and I don't need another installment. Five movies are enough for any series, in my opinion.

I'd like to see a prequel about Jack (something like screening of 'Price of Freedom'), of course with Johnny Depp.

Johnny Depp is the heart of the series. Without him, it's nothing. Bring him back.

Captain Barbossa is so underrated, to me he is as important as any other character in the franchise.
