Timbaland took D.O.E to his next label, Mosley Music Group in 2006, after Beat Club folded under the weight of the artists on the roster. He is featured on the hit "The Way I Are" on label mate Timbaland's Shock Value album. He was also on the song "Piano Man" where he disses Scott Storch over his rivalry with Timbaland. The song is a response to the Storch-produced Built Like That by Philadephia rapper NOX. The title references the fact that Scott Storch uses a piano to make his beats.
D.O.E. Has just release the Mixtape "Timbaland Presents: The Fall of John Doe. The Rise of D.O.E." in anticipation of his first major label release coming early in 2009. The first single is called "Coming Down" and has already been leaked online.
According to the rapper's All Music Guide entry, D.O.E. spent 2008 preparing his debut album.
Bottom To Tha Top
D.O.E. Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Tired naked bodies stay awake
I wanted a transgressive experience
As close to it as I've got
And now I'm standing in my own way
Top to the bottom of last night
We're stuck in a movie with no plotI just want to feel outspoken
Half-woke, other half insane
And now we're doing it all again
The lyrics in D.O.E.'s song "Bottom to Tha Top" express a desire for a transgressive and unconventional experience. The singer recounts a night of passion and intimacy, but there is a sense of dissatisfaction and restlessness. The line "Tired naked bodies stay awake" suggests that they are too restless to sleep, even though they are physically exhausted. They are looking for something more than just physical pleasure; they want to feel "outspoken" and to push boundaries.
However, the tone of the lyrics is ambivalent. The singer is also aware that they are "standing in their own way," and that they are "stuck in a movie with no plot." There is a sense of frustration and uncertainty about what they want and where they are going. The repetition of the phrase "doing it all again" at the end of the song suggests a cycle of repetition and a lack of progress.
Overall, the lyrics to "Bottom to Tha Top" are about the search for fulfillment and excitement, but there is a sense of ennui and dissatisfaction as well. The singer is looking for something that is hard to define, and they are struggling with their own limitations and doubts.
