Fusion
D.T. Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It doesn't pertain to the bond i share with my mother
This is the reason that i keep going
Forward
I don't believe in fate
Or the church and state
I belong to you
It doesn't exist without acceptance of the future
And when you commit it's as scientific as fusion
This is the reason that i keep going
Onward
I don't believe in fate
Or the church and state
I belong to you
You're my fate
The lyrics of D.T.'s song Fusion explore the theme of individuality and the importance of taking charge of one's own destiny. The opening lines "It doesn't explain the choices made by others, it doesn't pertain to the bond I share with my mother" suggest that the singer is focused on his or her own path, rather than being influenced by external factors or relationships. The repetition of the phrase "This is the reason that I keep going forward/onward" reinforces the idea that the singer is determined to forge their own way in life.
The next stanza delves into the singer's beliefs, or lack thereof. "I don't believe in fate or the church and state" suggests a rejection of predestination or religious authority, and a desire for personal agency. The final line of the stanza "I belong to you, you're my fate" can be read in a couple of ways - it could be interpreted as the singer finding meaning and purpose in a relationship, or as a nod to the idea that one's choices ultimately determine their fate.
The final stanza brings the theme of fusion into play - the idea that when you commit to something, it can be as powerful as a scientific process. The closing line "I belong to you, you're my fate" takes on a deeper significance when paired with this idea of fusion - the singer is committing to someone or something, in the hope that they will become part of a greater whole.
