The three met while they were young men at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. They formed the band dc Talk (a reference to Washington D.C., but later marketed as 'decent Christian talk' by their label) and, as of the year 2000, spent twelve solid years together, performing all over the world, recording 6 albums, and earning many awards, including 4 Grammy awards.
Their music, aimed at a younger audience, combined hip-hop, rap, and R&B sensibilities and filled a gap in 1980s Christian Music and gave them a unique niche. Their first three albums, DC Talk, Nu Thang, and Free at Last started from their rap/hip-hop roots but increasingly included melodic vocal rock influences. Their 1995 studio album, Jesus Freak, continued this musical evolution by eshewing almost all rap elements and adopting a harder modern rock/grunge sound on many songs, especially the title track. Their most recent studio album, Supernatural, draws on their previous efforts while moving towards mainstream pop stylings.
Their signature sound in all albums is their use of the three members' different vocal skills separately and together. They are often lauded for their lyrical sophistication, addressing many themes in Christian theology, faith, and practice.
After more than ten years together as a group, they are taking a break in recording together to pursue their own activities outside of the band, and launch solo careers in recording music. Michael Tait formed his own band, Tait, and has most recently served as the frontman for Newsboys. Toby McKeehan has released music under the name Tobymac, and has been the most sucessful of the three. Kevin Max has released two solo albums of his own.

Notice their fleeting glances and their lack of hope
I offer this suggestion, they don't seem to care-o
This is my generation, drowning in despair-o
You'll never find peace of mind in your pool of self
You'll never find peace of mind in a sea of wealth
You'll never find peace of mind in your rock and roll
[Chorus]
You gotta like it, you gotta love it
I know you need some freedom from the strife
You gotta like it, you gotta love it
I know you need some Jesus in your life
[Some Jesus in your life, some Jesus in your life]
We circumvent our feelings through an angry sound
He who complains the loudest, wears the fattest crown
We're anti-everybody, call it paranoia
Well I ain't no judge or jury, but I'm praying for ya
You'll never find peace of mind in your lucky charm
You'll never find peace of mind on a hippie farm
You'll never find peace of mind in a one-night stand
You'll never find peace of mind in your superman
[Chorus]
You gotta like it, you gotta love it
I know you need it
You gotta like it, you gotta love it
I know you need some Jesus in your life
Like it, love it, need it, don't leave it
Like it [don't you like it?]
Love it, need it [don't you need it?]
Don't leave it
Ya dropped right into the middle of a freak attack
Cause we're back and we're comin' like that
Ya see we're lowerin' the boom in the middle of the tune
Cause the funk is always heavy where it's at
And while you're whining all the time
Never changing any minds
It is clear to see your lip has lost its button
Cause if ya take a think at this
Then it's easy to admit
That the selfish way you're livin' is for nothing
You gotta like it
You know you need some freedom from the strife
You gotta love it
I know you need some Jesus in your life
[Chorus]
You gotta like it, you gotta love it
I know you need it
You gotta like it, you gotta love it
I know you, God knows you need it
You gotta like it, you gotta love it
I know you need it
Some Jesus in your life
Jesus in your life
The song "Like It" by DC Talk is about the struggles of their generation and how they cope with it. The first verse talks about how their peers are struggling with fleeting glances and lack of hope, and the singer offers a suggestion that they don't seem to care about. The chorus talks about how they need to like it, love it, and have some freedom from their strife. They mention that they need some Jesus in their life as well.
The second verse talks about how their generation circumvents their feelings through an angry sound and how he who complains the loudest wears the fattest crown. They also mention that they are anti-everybody and that they call it paranoia. The message in this verse is that they need to stop complaining and realize that they need some Jesus in their life.
The bridge talks about dropping the beat and lowering the boom in the middle of the tune. They are essentially saying that they are coming back with a bang and that it is time for their generation to start thinking about their actions. The final chorus repeats the earlier sentiments that they need some Jesus in their life.
Overall, the song's message is that they need to have some faith and that their generation is in a dark place that needs to change.
