He is known as New York's leading mixtape gardener.[1] He currently serves as the President & CEO of BLOK Entertainment, his own management and production company that has already produced tracks for such artist like DMX, Murderers, Funkmaster Flex, Foxy Brown, Juvenile, Petey Pablo, Fabolous and many more. He is also an MTV2 VJ for Sucker Free Countdown.

A native of Queens, New York, DJ Envy was tutored by neighborhood acquaintance DJ Clue?,[2] who introduced him to the mixtape circuit in the mid-90's. He quickly climbed up the ranks, and by the early 2000 he was peddling the latest freestyles and exclusives for big-name rappers like Jay-Z, 50 Cent and The L.O.X.. Since his reputation was so esteemed Sony sign him to their affiliate label Desert Storm Records. In 2003, he released his commercial debut album entitled The Desert Storm Mixtape: Blok Party, Vol. 1.

Envy's big break on the radio came when he mixed once a month for Hot 97's show called "Takin' it to the Streets", hosted by Angie Martinez from 12 a.m.-4 a.m., but later filled in when Angie Martinez got pregnant.[3] He then co-host Hot 97's morning show with Miss Jones from 6 a.m.-10 a.m. daily. His run on the morning show ended in July 2008 when Miss Jones moved to Philadelphia. Envy spinned on his own mixshows on Hot 97 called "The People's Mix" on Saturdays from 12pm to 2pm and "The People's Choice Hit List" on Sundays 5pm to 8pm. He had a segment on Hot 97 titled "New at 2", where he played the newest hits from 2 to 2:30 p.m. He currently hosts Hip-Hop Nation's afternoon show on Sirius XM Radio on weekdays 5 pm – 10 pm EST and on weekends he does a show from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Power 105.

On Monday December 6, 2010, DJ Envy, Angela Yee and Charlamagne Tha God began hosting the morning show on Power 105 as The Breakfast Club.

Envy has made appearances on various television shows like 106 & Park, Entourage and Tha Corner, which he hosts on the Music Choice channel.[3] He was featured in the 2006 film Blood of a Champion, credited as Shadow's enemy friend. and Lil Mama WSHH video as well[4]

On March 21, 2010, DJ Envy took over as host of MTV2's Sucker Free Countdown.

@Isha Ramsi You misquoted me so many times, I never said people have equal opportunities in Nigeria, I'm not stupid, I also specifically said I know nothing about music and the background of these musicians (I'm also very aware that there is no such thing as chasing your dreams in Nigeria unless your rich). I am only talking about upward mobility and your statement about there not being any "rags to riches" stories in Nigeria. there is nothing about "rags to riches" in America or Nigeria that says equal opportunity...It's about succeeding despite the fact that there isn't. And perhaps upward mobility isn't the right word (given that upward mobility suggests moving from poverty to middle class, and considering there is basically no middle class in Nigeria), but those very special cases of people coming from nothing to the top of society, basically actual "rags to riches" are what I said is probably more rare in the US than Nigeria.
And Nigeria is considered a country of old rich people in terms of politics, highly doubt that has anything to do with things like business.

Lord knows I love Davido, and I mean this with absolutely no shade, but you're asking a young man who's father has a net worth of $700 million, what Nigeria is like. His interpretation of the country is going to be completely different from most people's reality. Nigeria, and many African countries alike, have their own Hollywood scene going on, but it is in a very concentrated part of the country. Ask your Nigerian mates about the difference between mainland and island (Lekki, Aja, Banana Island, V.I, etc.) On the flip side, Nigeria is a great country to travel to in terms of indigenous cultural preservation and resiliency of a people. I find that what most people fail to mention about going to an African country, is it being a humbling experience. I just want to reiterate that even as advanced as we are, if you're coming from a "first world" society, you will face a few challenges, even when on vacation in Naija. Anyhow, needless to say, we no dey carry last lol.

I see many black Americans and white Americans who are vibeing to Afrobeats. I put some of my friends on to listen to Afrobeats music and they love it. I seen Davido performance at Made In America In Philly he had so many people who probably didn’t know his music but they were feeling and loving his sound. And the people that knew his music such as the Africans and Caribbean people sung every song word for word. Where I live in New Jersey Afrobeats is growing , It’s growing in Philly, and Its big in New York for sure. If you listen closely to the interview DJ Evny ask Davido that you have two huge record Fall, and IF that are big overseas but are growing bigger and bigger here in America which is true. 🤷🏾‍♂️✌🏾

Not only in NYC...They also play Afrobeats music on the radio and in the clubs in Maryland, Atlanta, DC, Texas, Cali, New Jersey, Boston, Connecticut, Virginia, Chicago, etc. You don't have to live in "immigration nation" to hear Afrobeats music in your city. Sucks to hear people judge him because his father is successful, when clearly he has tremendous talent that no amount of money could create... I personally being from America loved hearing this story about a rich and powerful black man, who pushes and supports his children. @Royalty Farida i have heard people from different countries simply say they are from africa instead of specifying what african country they are from. so stop getting mad when african americans be general by saying africa instead of specifying a particular african country. that is the point.

Naomi D .....she will call you DUMB. There are 36 states in Nigeria alone. So if you want her to refer to you as a PHOENIX, ARIZONA GIRL then you better identify her by her state in Nigeria as well, eg LAGOS, ENUGU, KWARA, EDO, etc. Nigeria has one President who has jurisdiction over the 36 States in the country. Each of the 50 plus countries in Africa have their own Presidents. The POTUS is not in charge of Canada nor Antigua.....In case you don’t know, Continental North America has some 23 independent countries of which Canada, USA, Haiti, Cuba, Bahamas are all part. Do you refer to any of those countries as ‘North America’???? The mistake you guys make is the comparison of your states to countries. You share similar government structure with Nigeria, which have states. Cameroon and Benin are neighboring countries to Nigeria, just as Canada and Mexico are to the USA.
