Earlier public use of the word Jabroni I recall was by Jerry Lawler if you look up some of his illustrations he did one for a restaurant he had in Memphis and one of the items was the Gibroni burger not the same spelling but implied intent nonetheless.

I like The Rock and his Swedish language gag is HILARIOUS.
However, when I worked in a NYC supermarket in the early-1970s a Sicilian-born coworker used it constantly.
If The Rock learned it from The Sheik my speculation is that The Sheik learned it from his Italian friend Bruno Sammartino.
BTW, deep respect to The Sheik for coming to Bruno’s aid when some Steelers pro football players attacked him, with The Sheik and Bruno killed kicking their asses in the locker room. Bruno wasn’t wrestling on the card and was the locker room manager.He told the obnoxious football players they couldn’t enter the locker room but, being the arrogant pricks they were, tried to bully Bruno. BAD MOVE, especially when The Sheik has your back!

that wasn't a Pittsburgh football player that started it. Instead it was a football player from Pittsburgh named Dave "Rooster" Fleming who had played in the CFL for 10 years. Fleming saw Sammartino backstage, gave him a tight grip of a handshake and said Bruno was washed up. Bruno then returned the favor with a stronger grip and said something along the lines of "but I'm still stronger than you." Fleming threw a punch, Bruno countered, and five men (non-football players, but friends of Fleming) rushed Bruno. That's when the Iron Sheik, freshly out of the shower, came out to clean house with Sammartino and humbled the six guys who tried to get over on Bruno with a beer bottle, old country way.

OK, maybe that last part isn't true, but he did come to Bruno's aid and helped take out the six men.

I first heard the word Jabroni used by Jerry the King Lawler back in '91 or '92. He used the term toward a jobber named Ben Jordan in the Memphis territory. Lawler's definition was " a wrestler that does not have the talent or ability to win a match. Ben Jordan was a jobber that was stoked that he was getting a title shot and kingfish reminded Ben Jordan that " you're like having a day off to me".

I had a junior high school gym teacher who called us jabronies starting 1973. I'm sure that it gained popularity due to the exposure of professional wrestling. It was by no means coined by any professional wrestlers.

The word jabroni recently became popular thanks to a bunch of The Rock's promos in the 1990s and 2000s. The Rock never said that he invented the word jabroni. He was often credited with making the word popular again. What he said in the video is that he "got" the word from Iron Sheik, who used to say the word constantly in the locker room.
