DKT/MC5 Lyrics

Come on
The kids want a little action
The kids want a little fun
The kids all have to get their kicks
Before the evening's done

'Cause they're goin' to
(High school)
Rah, rah, rah
(High school)
Sis, boom, bah
(High school)
Hey, hey, hey
You better let them have their way

They only wanna shake it up, baby
Dance to the rockin' bands
They only want a little excitement
They like to get a little outta hand

'Cause they're goin' to
(High school)
Rah, rah, rah
(High school)
Sis, boom, bah
(High school)
Hey, hey, hey
You better let them have their way

The kids know what the deal is
They're getting farther out everyday
We're gonna be takin' over
You better get out of the way

'Cause they're goin' to
(High school)
Rah, rah, rah
(High school)
Sis, boom, bah
(High school)
Hey, hey, hey
You better get out of the way

(High school)
Rah, rah, rah
(High school)
Sis, boom, bah
(High school)
Hey, hey, hey
You better get out of the way

(High school)
Rah, rah, rah
(High school)
Cha, cha, cha
(High school)
Hey, hey, hey
You better get out of the way

(High school)
Rah, rah, rah
(High school)
Cha, cha, cha
(High school)
Hey, hey, hey
You better get out of the way

(High school)
Rah, rah, rah
(High school)
Sis, boom, bah
(High school)

Hey, hey, hey
You better get out of the way

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of DKT/MC5's song "High School" express the desire of young people to have fun and get a little wild before they have to grow up and face the responsibilities of adulthood. The repetition of the phrase "Rah, rah, rah, Sis, boom, bah" is a nod to the traditional cheerleading chants heard at high school sporting events. The song paints a picture of students attending high school dances where they can dance to "rockin' bands" and even "get a little out of hand." The lyrics suggest that the younger generation is becoming more and more adventurous and daring, and will soon take over the world.

The song's lyrics reflect the energy and rebelliousness of rock and roll music, which was becoming increasingly popular in the 1960s when the song was written. The song is also an early example of punk rock, which would emerge as a genre in the following decade. The driving beat and distorted guitar riffs set the stage for the fierce, high-energy performances for which the MC5 became known.

Interestingly, the MC5's original version of "High School" was not released until 2004, many years after the band's heyday in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The song was originally recorded in 1970 as part of a live album called "Kick Out the Jams," but the band's record label at the time, Elektra Records, refused to release it because they felt that the lyrics were too controversial. A different version of the song, with lyrics that were more in line with Elektra's standards, was later released as a single.

Overall, "High School" is a classic example of the rebellious spirit of rock and roll, and serves as a reminder of the power and vitality of youth culture.

@BoobyMcDoogle

It's Dave Vanian from The Damned. A pretty well respected UK punk band from the 70's. The song is weird without... is it Wayne Kramer? I dunno. But it's not Elvis, and it's not shit.
