Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer
DMX Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You know Dasher and Dancer, Prancer and Vixen
Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen
But do you recall (what's that?)
The most famous reindeer of all?
(Come on)

Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows (come on, come on)
All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games

Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say (what's that?)
Rudolph with your nose so bright
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?

Then all the reindeers loved him
As they shouted out with glee
Rudolph, the Rednose Reindeer
You'll go down in history (forever)
You'll go down in history (forever)
You'll go down in histor
You'll go down in histor
You'll go down in history (now get it)

(What's that?)

Then all the reindeers loved him
As they shouted out with glee
Rudolph, the Rednose Reindeer
You'll go down in history (forever)
You'll go down in history (forever)
You'll go down in histor

You'll go down in histor
You'll go down in history (now get it)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to DMX's "Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer" are a rap adaptation of the classic Christmas song. The song begins by listing all of the well-known reindeer from Santa's sleigh - Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen. However, the song soon focuses on the most famous of all the reindeer, Rudolph. Unlike the other reindeer, Rudolph has a unique characteristic - his nose is bright and shiny, so much so that it glows. The other reindeer used to laugh and call him names, and they never let him join in any reindeer games. This is a statement on how society can be cruel to those who are different.

But on one foggy Christmas Eve, Santa Claus approaches Rudolph and asks him to guide his sleigh. Suddenly, all of the other reindeer love Rudolph and shout with glee as they realize he has an important purpose for Santa's deliveries. Rudolph goes down in history as the most famous of all the reindeer, proving that sometimes those who are different or ridiculed can end up being the most important and celebrated of all.
