In The Air Tonite
DMX ft. Phil Collins Lyrics

And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
Can you feel it coming in the air tonight? Oh Lord, oh Lord
Well, if you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand
I've seen your face before, my friend, but I don't know if you know who I am
Well, I was there and I saw what you did, I saw it with my own two eyes
So you can wipe off that grin, I know where you've been
And I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
Well, I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
Well, I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord, oh Lord
Well, I remember, I remember, don't worry, how could I ever forget?
It's the first time, the last time we ever met
But I know the reason why you keep your silence up, no, you don't fool me
Well, the hurt doesn't show, but the pain still grows
It's no stranger to you and me
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
Well, I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
I can feel it in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh Lord
Well, I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
I can feel it in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh Lord, oh Lord
Well, I've been waiting for this moment all my life, oh Lord, oh Lord
I can feel it in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh Lord, oh Lord, oh Lord
Well, I've been waiting for this moment all my life, oh Lord, oh Lord
The song "In the Air Tonight" by DMX ft. Phil Collins starts with the iconic line "I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord." Throughout the song, the singer talks about a person they know, who has lied and deceived someone else. The singer saw everything with their "own two eyes" yet the liar still wears a grin that they can wipe off. The singer has been waiting for this moment for all their life, but it's unclear what they mean by "this moment."
The second verse may shed some light on the situation. The singer remembers the first and last time they met the liar, who keeps silent about something that is causing them pain. The hurt doesn't show, but the pain still grows, and it's "no stranger to you and me." The song ends with the singer repeating the opening and chorus lines several times, emphasizing that they can feel something coming and they have been waiting for this moment all their life.
The meaning of the song is ambiguous, which adds to its haunting quality. Some interpret the song as a commentary on the music industry, with Phil Collins singing about the frustration and anger he feels towards someone who stole his ideas, while DMX speaks out about the corruption and lies in the industry. Other people interpret the song in a more personal way, with the singer talking to a former friend or lover who betrayed them. Regardless of the interpretation, the song's brooding atmosphere creates a sense of impending doom that stays with the listener for a long time.

This song/album came out after Tupac died. For Tupac fans like me we were looking for somebody to listen to and DMX came out with How's it going down and the rest was history. Dmx gave me that deep edge and sound that I was looking for and needed.
