Drab Majesty’s first release, a limited-edition cassette of 100 copies titled Unarian Dances, was self-released in 2012 and re-pressed by Lollipop Records shortly thereafter. Drab Majesty then signed with Dais Records and put out the debut LP Careless in 2015. Careless was met with high praise from critics and fans alike, and the original pressing is now a sought-after gem. A year after the initial pressings of Careless sold out, Dais released a compilation titled Completely Careless, featuring Drab Majesty’s entire discography, including two previously unreleased tracks.
On Halloween 2016, a split single featuring King Dude was released on Dais Records. Drab Majesty released their second LP entitled The Demonstration in January 2017.
In September 2017, the band released a single entitled Oak Wood in honor of Cash Askew, a victim of the Ghostship tragedy in Oakland.
A talented multi-instrumentalist, DeMure composes all of the elements of Drab Majesty. However, rather than taking personal credit for the music, DeMure insists that the inspiration for the songs is received from an other-worldly source and that Deb is merely a vessel through which outside ideas flow inward. But Drab Majesty is more than just a musical project — it’s a methodical experiment in the identity of creativity. The character Deb DeMure is an enigma that eludes all expectations of gender and ego. When DeMure’s imposing 6’ 4” figure assumes the stage, Deb’s playful, harlequinesque appearance, tempered by an ominous body language, and clashing with the dreamy, ethereal melodies comes across as a web of contrasts. The result is a perfect balance between seemingly conflicting messages, between the high and the low, the drab and the divine.

DRAB MAJESTY Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You really wanted to die
And if you hoped to hold the key to eternity
You really wanted to die
Can't count your blessings saying goodbye
Did you really watch your desires resign?
In the case of a wanderin' eye
When you fell to Earth and lost the love to love
You really wanted to try
Can't count your blessings saying goodbye
39, by design
Did they beam you up into the lights in the sky?
If you could take a polaroid of your life
Would you cry?
Would you make them stare into the whites of your eyes?
(Eternal point of view)
And when you came to turn the hands on the sands of time
You really wanted to die
And then you showed them all you fell
It was so hard to break the spell
You just wanted to die
Can't count your blessings saying goodbye
39, by design
Did they beam you up into the lights in the sky?
If you could take a polaroid of your life
Would you cry?
Would you make them stare into the whites of your eyes?
(Eternal point of view)
Really just a roll of the dice
When truth or lies will make you cry
Really doesn't make a lot of sense
Too tense to recompense
(The end we'll all be cleansed)
The opening lines of "39 by Design" by Drab Majesty set a tone of despair as we witness a person desperately trying to leave their life behind. In a state of deep hopelessness, they didn't just want to die, but they wished to hold the key to eternity. The person seems to be looking for a greater meaning in their existence, and they hope to find it by dying. However, as the song goes on, it becomes clear that even after they "fell to Earth" and "lost the love to love," they still wanted to try. The person yearns for something greater in their life, but they aren't sure what that is. As they try to turn the hands of time, they struggle under the weight of the spell that they are under, hoping to break free.

Thanks 🖤
Cuando caminabas solo para dejar
tu vida en casa
Realmente querías morir
Y si esperabas tener la llave
de la eternidad
Realmente querías morir
No puedes contar tus bendiciones
diciendo adiós
¿Realmente viste
renunciar a tus deseos?
En el caso de un ojo errante
Y cuando caíste a la tierra y
perdiste el amor de amar
De verdad querías intentarlo
No puedes contar tus bendiciones
diciendo adiós
39 a propósito
¿Te transportaron
a las luces del cielo?
Si pudieras hacer una polaroid
de tu vida, ¿llorarías?
¿Les harías mirar
en el blanco de tus ojos?
(Punto de vista eterno)
Y cuando llegaras a girar las
las manecillas de las arenas del tiempo
Realmente querías morir
Y entonces les mostraste
cómo te sentías
Fue tan difícil romper el hechizo
Sólo querías morir
No puedes contar tus bendiciones
