Drab Majesty’s first release, a limited-edition cassette of 100 copies titled Unarian Dances, was self-released in 2012 and re-pressed by Lollipop Records shortly thereafter. Drab Majesty then signed with Dais Records and put out the debut LP Careless in 2015. Careless was met with high praise from critics and fans alike, and the original pressing is now a sought-after gem. A year after the initial pressings of Careless sold out, Dais released a compilation titled Completely Careless, featuring Drab Majesty’s entire discography, including two previously unreleased tracks.
On Halloween 2016, a split single featuring King Dude was released on Dais Records. Drab Majesty released their second LP entitled The Demonstration in January 2017.
In September 2017, the band released a single entitled Oak Wood in honor of Cash Askew, a victim of the Ghostship tragedy in Oakland.
A talented multi-instrumentalist, DeMure composes all of the elements of Drab Majesty. However, rather than taking personal credit for the music, DeMure insists that the inspiration for the songs is received from an other-worldly source and that Deb is merely a vessel through which outside ideas flow inward. But Drab Majesty is more than just a musical project — it’s a methodical experiment in the identity of creativity. The character Deb DeMure is an enigma that eludes all expectations of gender and ego. When DeMure’s imposing 6’ 4” figure assumes the stage, Deb’s playful, harlequinesque appearance, tempered by an ominous body language, and clashing with the dreamy, ethereal melodies comes across as a web of contrasts. The result is a perfect balance between seemingly conflicting messages, between the high and the low, the drab and the divine.

Noise of the Void
DRAB MAJESTY Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Mass reaction sadness
Satan hides no more
Love is on a leash today
Branded by the things you
Say-tan hides no more
Satan hides no more
(It′s the emptiness, the emptiness)
You could never talk with silence like this
(It's the emptiness, the emptiness)
You could never stop the violence like this
(When sentience is sensing it)
It′s the emptiness, the emptiness
Love is a panopticon
Opted out of options
Satan hides no more
Satan hides no more
Death to your autonomy
Searching for that person
Satan hides no more
Satan hides no more
You walked right into the web
You could never talk with silence like this
(It's the emptiness, the emptiness)
You could never stop the violence like this
(When sentience is sensing it)
You could never walk with mileage like this
(It's your willingness to ignorance)
Listen to the noise of the void
There′s a message in it for you
Is there any reason now
To surrender sound as you enter the ground?
Is there any reason now
To surrender sound as you enter the ground?
Is there any reason now
To surrender sound as you enter the ground?
Is there any reason now
To surrender the horrendous sound of the hour is everywhere now?
(It′s the emptiness, the emptiness)
(It's the emptiness, the emptiness)
(It′s the emptiness, the emptiness)
You could never talk with silence like this
(It's the emptiness, the emptiness)
You could never stop the violence like this
(When sentience is sensing it)
You could never walk with mileage like this
(It′s your willingness to ignorance)
Listen to the noise of the void
There's a message in it for you
Listen to the noise of the void
There′s a message in it for you
Listen to the noise of the void
There's a message in it for you
There's a message in it for you
There′s a message in it for you
There′s a message in it for you
The lyrics to DRAB MAJESTY's "Noise of the Void" seem to explore themes of conformity, surrender, and emptiness. The opening lines suggest a sense of sorrow and despair brought on by the influence of others, as the singer is "surrounded by reactive eyes" and "mass reaction sadness." The mention of Satan hiding no more implies a sense of societal breakdown, and the image of love being on a leash suggests a lack of freedom and autonomy.
As the song progresses, the lyrics touch on a number of other dark and existential themes. Love is described as a "panopticon" from which there are no options to opt out, and the singer seeks a person to help them escape the grip of conformity. The repeated refrain of "listen to the noise of the void, there's a message in it for you" seems to suggest that there is some deeper meaning or purpose to be found in the emptiness and despair that surrounds us.
Overall, "Noise of the Void" is a haunting and thought-provoking exploration of the human condition, and the ways in which we are influenced and constrained by society and our own limitations.
