Drab Majesty’s first release, a limited-edition cassette of 100 copies titled Unarian Dances, was self-released in 2012 and re-pressed by Lollipop Records shortly thereafter. Drab Majesty then signed with Dais Records and put out the debut LP Careless in 2015. Careless was met with high praise from critics and fans alike, and the original pressing is now a sought-after gem. A year after the initial pressings of Careless sold out, Dais released a compilation titled Completely Careless, featuring Drab Majesty’s entire discography, including two previously unreleased tracks.
On Halloween 2016, a split single featuring King Dude was released on Dais Records. Drab Majesty released their second LP entitled The Demonstration in January 2017.
In September 2017, the band released a single entitled Oak Wood in honor of Cash Askew, a victim of the Ghostship tragedy in Oakland.
A talented multi-instrumentalist, DeMure composes all of the elements of Drab Majesty. However, rather than taking personal credit for the music, DeMure insists that the inspiration for the songs is received from an other-worldly source and that Deb is merely a vessel through which outside ideas flow inward. But Drab Majesty is more than just a musical project — it’s a methodical experiment in the identity of creativity. The character Deb DeMure is an enigma that eludes all expectations of gender and ego. When DeMure’s imposing 6’ 4” figure assumes the stage, Deb’s playful, harlequinesque appearance, tempered by an ominous body language, and clashing with the dreamy, ethereal melodies comes across as a web of contrasts. The result is a perfect balance between seemingly conflicting messages, between the high and the low, the drab and the divine.

Oxytocin
DRAB MAJESTY Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Of this, make what you will
I′m just looking for that thrill, tonight
To love again, to love again
All the time I have, I borrow
I'm not living for tomorrow, it's not there
Alive again, alive again
To die tonight
And so very long, it′s true
All the games I played to reach you
I don't care at all, I don′t care at all
Throw it all away, away
There'll be time to laugh
Time to laugh, some day
To fade away, to fade away
The ties we have we′ll sever
You know nothing lasts forever, anyway
Way-ay-ay-ay
Ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah
The lyrics in DRAB MAJESTY's song "Oxytocin" convey a sense of longing for a thrill, a desire to love again, and an overall appreciation for being alive. The repetition of "I'm in love again" at the beginning of the song emphasizes the singer's emotional state, and the line "of this, make what you will" suggests that the love the singer seeks may not be readily apparent or easily defined. The line "all the time I have, I borrow" indicates a sense of living in the moment and not worrying about the future, a theme that continues throughout the song.
The lyric "I don't need to die tonight" is an interesting juxtaposition against the longing for excitement and love, and suggests that the singer is not necessarily seeking a dangerous or reckless experience. This is reinforced by the following lyric "all the games I played to reach you, I don't care at all", which suggests a willingness to move on from past struggles and focus on the present. The repeated lyric "to fade away" at the end of the song suggests an acceptance of impermanence and the knowledge that nothing lasts forever.
Overall, "Oxytocin" is a dreamy, contemplative song that explores themes of love, mortality, and living in the present moment.
