Drab Majesty’s first release, a limited-edition cassette of 100 copies titled Unarian Dances, was self-released in 2012 and re-pressed by Lollipop Records shortly thereafter. Drab Majesty then signed with Dais Records and put out the debut LP Careless in 2015. Careless was met with high praise from critics and fans alike, and the original pressing is now a sought-after gem. A year after the initial pressings of Careless sold out, Dais released a compilation titled Completely Careless, featuring Drab Majesty’s entire discography, including two previously unreleased tracks.
On Halloween 2016, a split single featuring King Dude was released on Dais Records. Drab Majesty released their second LP entitled The Demonstration in January 2017.
In September 2017, the band released a single entitled Oak Wood in honor of Cash Askew, a victim of the Ghostship tragedy in Oakland.
A talented multi-instrumentalist, DeMure composes all of the elements of Drab Majesty. However, rather than taking personal credit for the music, DeMure insists that the inspiration for the songs is received from an other-worldly source and that Deb is merely a vessel through which outside ideas flow inward. But Drab Majesty is more than just a musical project — it’s a methodical experiment in the identity of creativity. The character Deb DeMure is an enigma that eludes all expectations of gender and ego. When DeMure’s imposing 6’ 4” figure assumes the stage, Deb’s playful, harlequinesque appearance, tempered by an ominous body language, and clashing with the dreamy, ethereal melodies comes across as a web of contrasts. The result is a perfect balance between seemingly conflicting messages, between the high and the low, the drab and the divine.

DRAB MAJESTY Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You made me feel so dead tonight
Can't dissolve your noxious mind
I'll treat you right
Can't resolve this toxic plight
From my line of sight
You forgot what love was like
I'm digging for a hopeless sign
Or something of the like
I can't find the reason why you're treating me this way
You wanna keep me in the lobby
It's the room that you go tonight to take me away
You wanna keep me in the foyer
No room for a broken man anyway
You forgot what love was like
Your last name tastes like cyanide
Searching for a hopeless sign
Something of the like
Oh, I can't find the reason why youre killing me this way
The lyrics of DRAB MAJESTY's song The Foyer are filled with pain and desperation. The opening lines, "You can't feel those arms of mine / You made me feel so dead tonight / Can't dissolve your noxious mind / I'll treat you right" suggest that the singer is in a relationship with someone who is emotionally distant, possibly even toxic. Despite wanting to be close, to "feel those arms," they feel dead and unable to connect with their partner. The use of the word "noxious" implies that their partner's influence is harmful and poisonous, and yet the singer continues to hold out hope, insisting that they will "treat you right." However, the next line reveals that things are more complicated than that: "Can't resolve this toxic plight / From my line of sight." It seems that the singer is stuck in a cycle of pain and mistreatment and can't even see a way out.
The chorus shifts focus to the partner's actions: "You wanna keep me in the lobby / It's the room that you go tonight to take me away / You wanna keep me in the foyer / No room for a broken man anyway." The repeated use of "you wanna keep me" highlights the partner's desire for control and power. The mention of the "lobby" and "foyer" suggest a sense of limbo or waiting, unable to move forward or find a way out. The final line, "No room for a broken man anyway," reinforces the idea that the singer is trapped and unwanted, undeserving of love or care. The chorus is powerful in its repetition, serving as a reminder of the hopelessness and lack of agency felt by the singer.
Overall, The Foyer is a haunting depiction of a toxic relationship, filled with pain, isolation, and powerlessness. The singer is stuck in a situation they can't control, desperately hoping to connect with their partner despite the harm they continue to inflict. The chorus serves as a reminder of the futility of it all, and the unrelenting pain of being trapped in a cycle of abuse.

I was feeling extremely lonely today. I rarely drink alcohol, but tonight I drank too much, and coming off of its effects my mood always goes to rock bottom and makes me feel stranded in the dark. But I turned this song on, and the pain connects to something, and life makes sense. Goth rock isn't meant to be dark for the sake of being dark like how the mainstream perceives it, its meant to soothe you. If you have a gothic spirit inside of you, this music pulls life's fangs and claws out of you and makes them dance around you.
