Multiple mixtapes followed in the coming months, with 2017 offering Billion Dollar Baby, Baby Talk, Baby Talk 2, 3, and 4, as well as Back on My Baby Jesus Sh!t. 2018 continued in a similarly fashion with Baby Talk 5 and Blank Blank. In November of 2018, while shopping with his family at a Walmart in Huntersville, North Carolina, Kirk was approached by several men. An altercation broke out and gunfire ensued, resulting in the death of 19-year-old Jalyn Domonique Craig. Kirk, while involved in the dispute, did not admit to firing the fatal shots and was not charged with any crime connected to the incident. DaBaby got a label deal in 2019 when he signed on with Interscope.
The label quickly released Baby on Baby in March of that year, a full-length that was preceded by videos for singles "Suge" and "Walker, Texas Ranger."

Take that off
Oh lord, Jetson made another one!
Ay, how she only 21 and she a savage?
My bitch look bad, she make my other bitch look average
I'm talking nasty
I call her my lil' bad bitch
How she only 21 and she a savage?
My bitch look bad, she make my other bitch look average
I'm talking nasty
I call her my lil' bad bitch
She call me daddy but I am not her daddy
Who you know that sign a label deal and still don't eat?
What y'all paying for the pole 'cause I got cheaper refer
I be strapped up at my show, you know I keep a heater
Blowing loud to keep a flow 'cause all these people demons
When I was down, I was on my own, now all these people need me
I had to branch off on my own, too many people leaches
And I don't like no leaches, no I don't like no leaches
When I light fire (oh)
I used to like my teacher, food out there I'm eating
I made your freak turn freaky
This really me, come see
You know its a fee for features
She told me that she 21, her record still clean and she young
I looked the bitch dead in her eyes, told her go get some more legal guns
I need that
How she only 21 and she a savage?
My bitch look bad, she make my other bitch look average
I'm talking nasty
I call her my lil' bad bitch
She call me daddy but I am not her daddy
How she only 21 and she a savage?
My bitch look bad, she make my other bitch look average
I'm talking nasty
I call her my lil' bad bitch
She call me daddy but I am not her daddy
Can't do another other, got it for me, baby
'Cause I am not your daddy, I'm Da fucking Baby
I still remember back when we ain't have no fucking money, baby
Had to act like I was watching something, wasn't no cable
I saw the screen, it was blue
I had no AC it was hot
But now you can reach in my pockets and pull out a maw'fucking knot
No, they can't stand how I'm rocking
I know I'm the man, I'm so cocky
And we done hit all of these hoes
If she from the city, we got her
You better come get him, we got him
He tried to come get me, we shot him
I'm still in the city, ain't hiding
Touch one of my niggas, we riding
She told me that she 21, her record still clean and she young
I looked the bitch dead in her eyes, told her go get some more legal guns
I need that
How she only 21 and she a savage?
My bitch look bad, she make my other bitch look average
I'm talking nasty
I call her my lil' bad bitch
She call me daddy but I am not her daddy
How she only 21 and she a savage?
My bitch look bad, she make my other bitch look average
I'm talking nasty
I call her my lil' bad bitch
She call me daddy but I am not her daddy
In DaBaby's song "21," the rapper speaks about his admiration for a woman who is only 21 years old and is incredibly wild and untamed, referring to her as a "savage." He notes that she looks amazing and makes him forget about any other woman he was with before her. DaBaby also notes that he is not her real father, but the woman still calls him daddy. He continues about his experiences dealing with leeches and how he now has more people who need him after he has become successful. DaBaby then talks about his humble beginnings, where he didn't have much and even watched a blue screen since there was no cable in his home. However, now he has money, and he makes sure no one messes with him or his crew.
DaBaby's "21" is a song that manages to evoke emotions with its raw and honest lyrics. The rapper describes his perspective of the industry and relationships, showcasing the realities of fame and fortune. Despite the song's explicit nature, it is an empowering track that talks about overcoming adversity and coming out on top. DaBaby's verse about his humble beginnings also helps to provide insight into his life and the motivation needed to succeed.
