Multiple mixtapes followed in the coming months, with 2017 offering Billion Dollar Baby, Baby Talk, Baby Talk 2, 3, and 4, as well as Back on My Baby Jesus Sh!t. 2018 continued in a similarly fashion with Baby Talk 5 and Blank Blank. In November of 2018, while shopping with his family at a Walmart in Huntersville, North Carolina, Kirk was approached by several men. An altercation broke out and gunfire ensued, resulting in the death of 19-year-old Jalyn Domonique Craig. Kirk, while involved in the dispute, did not admit to firing the fatal shots and was not charged with any crime connected to the incident. DaBaby got a label deal in 2019 when he signed on with Interscope.
The label quickly released Baby on Baby in March of that year, a full-length that was preceded by videos for singles "Suge" and "Walker, Texas Ranger."

Five for a dub, beggin' me for a body
They like stop lettin' these niggas try you
We ready to slide, big bruh
Ride sittin' up, shittin' on everybody
Hangin' out the window with that fire
They ready to fire shit up
Price went up, I'm chargin' double today (uh)
I just popped a pill, she popped a pill, the pussy in trouble today (come here)
Ain't gon' be no more welfare from me, you can keep lettin' the government pay
No, I can't see not nan nigga playin' with me, if they do hope they ready to play (yes, sir)
Let me take that, let me get a shot too, okay I'm ready for bae
Niggas white t-shirts at the birthday party, they scared of the cake
Put the world on my shoulders, you can get up there too
Big dawg, I can carry the weight
Earrings havin' seven karats in each ear, do the math, that's a karat a day
My bitch and your bitch and his bitch mine (yeah)
I set it off and kept it humble, they must've forgot how the fuck Baby comin'
I'm ready to shit on these lil' niggas this time (let's go)
Clean as a bitch with a big iron (yeah)
How I'm rockin', shit, go ask my mama
She'll probably tell you I ain't with the talkin'
You see that boy pull that bitch out, better get down (get down, get down)
What it sound like when I get to hittin'? (Yeah, nigga)
Findin' me, that's a lottery ticket
You think buddy cool, I don't follow the nigga (uh-uh)
It's the gun in the joggers for me
Send the ho to the mall, get a tee
Make my dog walk you down for a fee
I don't think they understandin', my lil' nigga got 'em
Five for a dub (yeah), beggin' me for a body
They like stop lettin' these niggas try you
We ready to slide, big bruh (let's go)
Ride sittin' up (yeah), shittin' on everybody
Hangin' out the window with that fire
They ready to fire shit up
Five for a dub (yeah), beggin' me for a body
They like stop lettin' these niggas try you
We ready to slide, big bruh (let's go)
Ride sittin' up (yeah), shittin' on everybody
Hangin' out the window with that fire
They ready to fire shit up
Yeah, nigga
I'm talkin', can't wait to do it (can't wait to do it)
You know, you know (that ain't DaBaby, that's my baby)

In "5 for a dub," DaBaby is bragging about his success and dominance, while also making references to violence and drug use. The title refers to the price for a dub, or twenty dollars. DaBaby claims that people are offering him this amount of money to kill someone, and encourages them to stop trying to test him. He is ready to retaliate with force, riding with weapons and ready to "fire shit up."
The second verse has DaBaby boasting about his wealth and success, declaring that he no longer needs welfare and can support himself. He references his jewelry, with seven karats in each ear, and his ability to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders. He claims that his enemies are underestimating him, and warns that his "lil' nigga" (possibly a reference to himself) is capable of causing damage.
Overall, the lyrics of "5 for a dub" paint a picture of DaBaby as a powerful and intimidating figure, with a willingness to resort to violence to protect his reputation and wealth. While some may find the language and themes of the song disturbing, it serves as a glimpse into the realities of some communities where violence and drug use are prevalent.
