The duo's first release was the 5-track maxi single titled Flip da Scrip, which was released on November 24, 1992. A few months later, on July 13, 1993, Da King & I's first and only album, Contemporary Jeep Music was released, containing the singles "Flip Da Scrip" and "Tears." Although the album did gain many positive reviews, the success and popularity of Gangsta rap resulted in the album becoming a commercial failure. The duo disbanded shortly after the release of the album.

The lyrics to Da King & I's song Tears present a challenge in interpretation, as they are in several languages, including Zulu and Tsonga, as well as a mix of slang and colloquialisms. The song opens with mention of Giyani, a town in South Africa's Limpopo Province, and a reference to kalawa, a traditional dance that originates from the Nguni people of Southern Africa. The chorus includes a call-and-response style of singing, with the lead vocalist repeating the phrase "my guy" several times.
As the song progresses, the lyrics seem to focus on partying and dancing, with mentions of various locations and the act of shaking or twerking. There are also references to various alcoholic beverages and possible drug use, with mentions of "beer" and "brutal fruit." The lyrics are not explicit, but there is a clear emphasis on having a good time and ignoring any potential negative consequences.
