Daddy Lumba started his music career as one part of the Lumba Brothers duo when he collaborated with his partner Nana Acheampong. They released their first album entitled ‘Yereye Aka Akwantuo Mu’.
This song depicted the number of Ghanaian immigrants that originally leave the country to seek better fortunes abroad but make those temporary homes permanent due to financial, emotional, or other unforeseen hardships. Lumba’s wife produced the album.
Year after year Daddy Lumba released one hit album after the other producing hit-songs 'Ohia Asem', 'Playboy', 'Seese Wo Se', 'Odo Foforo', Biribi Gye Gye Wo', 'Back for Good' and 'Aben Wo Ha'; an album that took the country and his fans by storm.
He collaborated with stars including A. B. Crentsil, Selina, Felix Owusu, Yaw Micah, Borax, Ofori Amponsah, and Pat Thomas.
Daddy Lumba in 1999 paired up with rising star, Ofori Amponsah to release 'Woho Kyere'. This album produced five hits and shot Ofori Amponsah into the limelight.
Lumba followed up with 'Adepa Hye Adepa', 'Poison', 'Papa Samo', 'Ofie Banbofo', 'Asee Ho', Odo Bewu Dee Eno Nwu', among others.
He has since released over 19 other albums as a songwriter, or singer or producer or all three. These include Obi Ato Meso Boo, Sika Asem, Ohia Asem, Playboy, Sesee Wo Se, Odo Foforo, Biribi Regyegye Wo, Back For Good, Mesom Jesus, and Woana Na Otene. Others are Aben Wo Ha, Woho Kyere, Adepa Hye Adepa, Poison, Papa Samo, Ofie Banbofo, Asee Ho, Odo Bewu Dee Eno Nwu and Ahenfo Kyinie.
His solo career has been nothing short of controversy; one moment he would release a gospel album and in the next he would shock people with his provocative lyrics and music videos. He owns his own studio where he does all his work and also owns machines that do mastering, cassette duplication, loading, printing and shrink wrapping exclusively for his works. His music has evolved over the years to reflect the changes in taste and demands for music; he can currently be described as a contemporary highlife artist. Daddy Lumba has won several Ghana Music Awards and other excellence awards and continue to appeal to the young and old.
In December 2007, he reunited with Nana Acheampong for a concert and there are talks of the two having another album together. Lumba proved that he is still a force to recon with when he scored several nominations in the 2008 Ghana Music Awards with his album, Tokurom.
Homeless
Daddy Lumba Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I am talking about the homeless
Homeless (4*)
Lord he said to the man on the street sir could
You help me a poor soul,
It is so cold outside now Lord and I am
Homeless nowhere to go
THE WORLD IS FOR US ALL BUT EACH FOR
HIMSELF
He came back next time to see he is gone and
Could not stand the cold that night
A help delayed A HELP DENIED
Justice delayed JUSTICE DENIED
Lch will es wissen (2*)
Bin ich einer von euch order bin ich allein (2*)
Gemeinsam ainsam
The lyrics to Daddy Lumba's song "Homeless" speak to the issue of homelessness and the harsh realities faced by those who are forced to live on the streets. The opening line "Meka moho anaa anaa se me ye dua koro" is a Ghanaian phrase that roughly translates to "Do you know what it feels like to be homeless?" The chorus repeats the word "homeless" several times, driving home the central message of the song.
The second verse tells a poignant story of a homeless man who asks for help from a passerby, only to be turned away with the cruel mantra "each for himself." The man returns later, but succumbs to the harshness of the weather and dies on the street. The chorus of the song reinforces the idea that when help is delayed or denied, justice is also denied.
