our routines are repetitive, like the songs
on the first track of the album, it says we are human after all
in the second one, we are merging with the technology
in the third, we the robot is rocking
in the fourth, we enhance our tech with steam
in the fifth, we fall in love, demonstrating that robots can have emotions
in the sixth, we are brainwashed to forget we had emotions
on the 7th, we are witnessing the revolution
on the 8th, we television
on the 9th, we are being demanded/commanded to do what they program us to do and how to do it
on the 10th, we remember emotion but the cost is the love interest is gone, so we mourn (same fate in electroma when silver robot explodes and golden robot all alone)

My friend once said that daft punk has always proved that there are some stories and themes which can only be perfectly expressed in house music. Touch was the song that proved that to him and me, but I feel that this entire album is an even bigger testament to that. The underlying theme of the album is "technology is being poorly implemented, and could be detrimental to humanity if we don't check it". Technologic shows that such cookie cutter consumable media is what raises the next generation, I've always felt that the repeatative nature of Robot Rock is meant to show how robots (or just any automated action without the "human touch", I guess a condition that humans can take on if they lose their passion) can make something that is in all respects good, yet lacks the soul of humanity. All these themes are tied together in this song, as the element that defines the difference between soulless "robots" and humans is emotion. If you lack any sort of emotion for what you make, whether it is music, shows, books, anything, it will inevitably become automated, meaningless, shallow. This album gets a lot of flak for being the worst daft punk album, and I think I agree in regards to the music. But I can say without a doubt that it is the most thematic thing they've made (maybe alongside alive 2007). To top it all off, can you imagine any other format that could convey that theme like this? There really are some themes that can only be expressed properly through house.

I think you look too much for a meaning in this album. Not all songs are as repetitive as Robot Rock. They made this album in only 6 weeks, apparently because the contract with their label forced them to make it. It’s my fav album of them btw

So house can easily give you emotions?

@Existn’t I don't get it either.

How is alive 2007 thematic

@evan heimermann I agree. This is my all-time favorite album of theirs. I like it better than Discovery.

There are some songs out there with hundreds of words that arn't as touching as this, a song with one word.

MD7

@Progect That's a single word being repeated 140 times, not 140 words. You can also hear a voice say "Make love" in... well, Make Love, but I don't know how many times it's said.

you're doing gods work my dear boy

Progect

technically there is 140 words because emotion is looped 140 times. make love has 0. around the world has 432 fyi.
