hope
Dai Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hope, let's get together
And let us sing out!
Somewhere out there someday
We can all be as one

(Hope) singing (hope, hope)
(All be as one)

世界へ届けこの hope (hope)
希望という種を遠く (遠く)
見上げた空のムコウへ届けと願い込め飛ばした

芽生え始めたこの future
そしてきっとその花が
咲いてまた次の時代へ続く花道を作っていく I pray

Hope (hope), let's get together (let's get together)
And let us sing out!
Somewhere out there someday
We can all be as one (all be as one)

Hope (hope), let's get together (let's get together)
And let us sing out!
Somewhere out there someday
We can all be as one

Hope, let's get together
And let us sing out!

Somewhere out there someday
We can all be as one

Spoiler alert

DUDE, BATTLER IS INCEST. This is very sad actually, I was even thinking that the witch Beatrice existed before the 3rd Beatrice, but in episode 8 Battler himself says she is the third one (which is weird since she technically existed before when Rosa kills her, saying I was being released. This gave me the impression that the "magical" truth was that she was actually a homunculus from the original and the real "mystery" was that she was Kinzo's daughter with the original Beatrice). Anyway, I hope someone reading this will prove me wrong.

I always think of the scene on the beach in Legend of the Golden Witch, where the kids try and figure out the meaning of the epitaph, guessing, exchanging clues and knowledge, wholeheartedly and innocent. Maria sharing her doodles and notes, Shannon sharing her wisdom.

All the while believing this will be the summer of their lives: meeting up with family again, seeing old faces once more; connected not only in their excitement, but also in their mutual ignorance of the horrors that the incoming typhoon rumbling far, far in the distance, out of sight and out of mind, was about to bestow upon them.

What an absolutely beautiful piece.

@horohorosrin

Nacht Eule To me, it’ll always be that moment in the rose garden in episode one when you first hear it. I had to stop reading and just listen for a bit because it was so beautiful.

@nachteule8058

@@horohorosrin I felt like this with a lot of scenes in Umineko when the music first played. I just knew that this VN was something special because the music is just divine. It did not only live up to my expectations but far succeeded them. I'm in love with this story, these characters and this ethereal music. Umineko has barely left my mind for a single day since I finished it months ago

@sayo5885

@@nachteule8058 It's crazy how much of this sentiment we share. It's been years since I read umineko for the first time. Hope has many iconic moments throughout the VN but the one that stuck with me the most is the moment it first played during EP1. The moment it started playing in EP1 I thought to myself: ''Okay. I'm getting myself into something that is truly special and it will stick with me for the rest of my life.'' I wasn't wrong. It's crazy to me, out of all the other episodes that this track is played EP1 one just engraved itself into my heart and mind.

@Aitherion

Well. Shannon was aware.

@kyleco9149

The moment it played in the first ep during the beach was so beautiful

When I first heard this song in the rose garden in ep 1, I knew I was in for peak fiction.

It did not disappoint.

@bobthedominator8753

This is positively one of the most touching pieces I have ever heard

@Toanon

I love how this song always plays immediately before something bad happens.
In contrast to Higurashi’s slice of life piano music, this song is a lot more bittersweet and melancholy. It only generally plays during slice of life scenes and incredibly important, poignant scenes like when Ange arrives on Rokkenjima in EP4.
It gives the vibe of “hey, enjoy this while it lasts, cause not too long from now bad shit’s gonna start happening.”
This, like You in Higurashi, is what I consider the true “theme music” of Umineko. It plays at least once in every chapter.

@aidorygregan3849

It’s also the main leitmotif of the ost, making an appearance in more tracks than I can name. So I couldn’t agree more that this is Umineko’s theme.
