I'm Leaving It Up to You
Dale Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To decide what you're gonna do
Now, do you want my love?
Or are we through?
That's why I'm leaving it up to you
To decide what you're gonna do
Now do you want my love?
My heart in my hand
I, I, I don't understand
What have I, what have I done wrong?
You know I worship the ground you walk on
I'm leavin' it all up to you
To decide what you're gonna do
Now, do you want my love?
Or are we through?
Or are we through?
Or are we through?
The lyrics in Dale's song "I'm Leaving It Up to You" express the feelings of uncertainty and vulnerability that come with relationships. The singer is feeling confused and unsure about where they stand with their partner. They have given their heart fully to their partner, but they are not sure if their love is being reciprocated.
The line "My heart in my hand, I, I don't understand, Baby, what, what have I done wrong?" conveys the singer's sense of helplessness and confusion. They do not understand what they have done to cause this rift in their relationship. Despite this, they continue to love and worship their partner, as seen in the line "I worship, I worship the ground that you walk on."
The chorus, "I'm leaving it all up to you, you decide what you're gonna do, now do you want my love or are we through?" further emphasizes the singer's lack of control in the situation. They are willing to leave the decision-making up to their partner, but they are also prepared for the possibility of their relationship ending.
Overall, the lyrics in this song capture the tumultuous emotions that often accompany romantic relationships. They convey a sense of vulnerability and confusion, while also celebrating the enduring power of love.

When me & my girlfriend was 17 she became pregnant, We were young & confused about what to do. One night we were talking what we should do & this song came on the radio. She looked at me & simply said I'm leaving it up to you. 53 years , 5 children, 5 grandchildren & 2 great grandchildren later, we still look at each other and smile when we hear this song. God has Blessed us so much, & that song is still special.

My mom loved this song, she would sing it every time it was played on the radio, she went to the Lord almost two weeks ago, she'll be buried on Monday.
Mom, you gave birth to me and I love you very much for that, now, "I'll be leaving it up to you" when you'll call me home, until then, I'll miss you! 😔😥
