Caught, without an alibi
A picture's worth a thousand words they say
We're caught in a motel room
The tangled sheets smell like sweet perfume
No matter who's at fault, we're caught
Now who'd have thought it'd end like this
What a web we weave when we practice to deceive
We played the game but now we lose
Now we're just back street news
Oh my God, what are we gonna do
We're caught, in a camera's eye
Caught, without an alibi
A picture's worth a thousand words they say
We're caught in a motel room
The tangled sheets smell like sweet perfume
No matter who's at fault, we're caught
Rumors spread like wildfire in this town
It's too late to change our fate
We'll never live it down
Caught, in a camera's eye
Caught, without an alibi
A picture's worth a thousand words they say
We're caught in a motel room
The tangled sheets smell like sweet perfume
No matter who's at fault, we're caught
The “Caught” song by Dale Watson is about the consequences of being caught in the act of cheating. The singer gets caught in a motel room with their lover, without an alibi. The theme of the song is that one cannot escape the consequences of their actions or the power of a photograph. The first verse describes the setting of the story, a motel room, and how sensual it feels. The second verse of the song talks about how playing the game of cheating leads to failure, how rumors spread like wildfire and how regretful one may feel after they get caught. The chorus repeats the message of the dangers of infidelity and the idea that being caught is inevitable.
The phrase, “caught in a camera’s eye”, is a reminder that we are surrounded by images in our society, and these images often have consequences. The singer feels the weight of public scrutiny on their actions, and there seems to be no escape from the reality of what they have done.
The “Caught” song is a classic example of Dale Watson’s style of country music that is rooted in the traditional honky-tonk sound. The song features steel guitar and fiddle played in a classic honky-tonk style. Watson’s vocal delivery is confident and emotionally charged.
