Lifted
Dallas Smith Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
My old truck was lifted
That summer dress messing with my head
Caught the wind just a little bit and lifted
And it sure felt good (it sure felt good)
You holding my hand (you holding my hand)
Looking out over that hood (looking out over that hood)
Singing John Mellencamp
And we were high on nothing but living and loving
Running down something called a dirt road dream
Our own little world, one boy, one girl
Seventeen and riding that sweet southern breeze
Lifted, like a song from a choir
Lifted, like a flame from a raging fire
Lifted
First kiss out under the stars
I've kissed before but that ol' bar was lifted
New spot, we found my old guitar
You're dancing around with your arms lifted
And you sang along like you'd never be gone
And we were high on nothing but living and loving
Running down something called a dirt road dream
Our own little world, one boy, one girl
Seventeen and riding that sweet southern breeze
Lifted, like a prayer from a sinner
Lifted, checkered flag, finish line for the winner
Lifted
And we were high on nothing but living and loving
Running down something called a dirt road dreamOur own little world, one boy, one girl
Seventeen and riding that sweet southern breeze
Lifted, like a sail in the wind
Lifted, girl let's go back again
The lyrics of Dallas Smith's song "Lifted" tell the story of two young lovers who experience the joys of life when they first meet. The song begins with the singer picking up his love interest from her front porch in his old truck, which is lifted. He notices her summer dress and how it catches the wind, which momentarily lifts it, and he is taken aback by her beauty. They drive down a dirt road while singing along to John Mellencamp, feeling a high that comes only from being young and in love.
The chorus of the song reinforces the idea of being lifted in different contexts. The young couple isn't under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but the feeling of being free and happy is enough to make them feel lifted like a song from a choir, a flame from a raging fire, or even like a sail in the wind. They share their first kiss under the stars and make memories that they will cherish for the rest of their lives.
The second verse describes how they found new spots to make memories, including playing music together. The singer sings with his guitar, while his love interest dances around with her arms lifted. The idea of being free and lifted is a recurring theme throughout the song, and the singers are enjoying every moment of it.
Overall, "Lifted" is a song that tells the story of young love, freedom, and the joy of living in the moment. It celebrates the small moments that make life worth living and encourages the listener to find that feeling of being lifted, even during challenging times.

This song brings me to tears every time I hear it... My daughter was a still born, I think about her everyday. What she would look like, if she would have looked like her mother or me. I want to run away, go off an venture out. Her name is Adelina and she will forever be in my heart and never forgotten...

Before I realized what the song was about, All that was going through my head was why would you pick up a giant man in the desert wearing a trenchcoat and a wrestling mask???? Then it all made sense. Well done Dallas, very touching.

It's amazing to me. In a world full of sadness, pain, separation, riots, and shaming... an internet community (youtube) can be a supportive outlet. I'm reading these comments and am brought to tears by the loss and the kind words of strangers in an attempt to uplift spirits. This song, video, and page has definitely pulled on my feel strings and brought some restored faith in humanity. Remember to be kind to one another.... we all bleed red.
