Signs
Dalton Rapattoni Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If you wanted me like you did yesterday
I'd be there tomorrow
Memories are sweet
But not worth the aftertaste
It's a hard pill to shallow

And I miss not having to miss you
And if by chance you feel the same
Give me a map, a reason to come your way
And I will follow

I don't know which way to go
And all I see is open road
But if it brings me back to you
It's worth the drive
So I will keep looking for signs
Signs, signs, signs
And if it brings me back to you
It's worth the drive
So I will keep looking for signs

Like wisdom and wine, I needed the time to age
To see the world different
I've paid the price not valuing your embrace
My debt was distance

And I miss not having to miss you
And I promise you I've changed
We're still picture perfect inside a shattered frame
So let me fix it

I don't know which way to go
And all I see is open road
But if it brings me back to you
It's worth the drive
So I will keep looking for signs
Signs, signs, signs
And if it brings me back to you
It's worth the drive
So I will keep looking for signs

Don't waste another second on the time we lost
If you need a reminder
One look into your eyes rewinds the clocks
And this love is a fighter
But this love is a fighter

I don't know which way to go
And all I see is open road
But if it brings me back to you
It's worth the drive
So I will keep looking for

I don't know which way to go
And all I see is open road
But if it brings me back to you
It's worth the drive
So I will keep looking for signs

I don't know which way to go
And all I see is open road
But if it brings me back to you
It's worth the drive
So I will keep looking for signs
Signs, signs, signs
And if it brings me back to you
I'll be alright
So I will keep looking for signs
Signs, signs, signs
But if it brings me back to you

It's worth the drive
So I will keep looking for signs

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Signs" by Dalton Rapattoni talk about a relationship that has gone astray and the desire to try and fix it. The first verse talks about the memories of the past relationship and how, though sweet, they are not enough to overcome the "aftertaste" of what went wrong. However, the singer is willing to try again if given the chance.

In the second verse, the singer acknowledges that they were wrong to not value the embrace of their partner and that they have learned from their mistakes. They also express the desire to "fix" the relationship and make it "picture perfect inside a shattered frame". The chorus continues the theme of being lost and not knowing which direction to go, but the singer is willing to keep searching for signs that will lead them back to their partner.

The bridge of the song urges the partner to not dwell on the time lost, but to focus on the present and the love that still exists between them. The final chorus repeats the same sentiments as the previous ones, with the added assurance that if the signs lead them back to their partner, everything will be alright.

Overall, "Signs" showcases the struggle of trying to navigate a relationship that has gone through difficult times, but still holding on to the hope of making things work.
