Damian was two years old when his father Bob died; he is the only child born to Marley and Cindy Breakspeare, Miss World 1976. Damian's nickname Junior Gong is derived from his father's nickname of Tuff Gong. Damian has been performing since the age of 13 and released his first album in 1996, at the age of 18. He shares, along with most of his family, a full-time career in music. Unlike his brothers and sisters, however, his musical specialty is "toasting", a Jamaican vocal technique that is a predecessor to rapping.
Damian has 3 records to date, including the highest placed reggae album in the USA billboard album charts with Welcome To Jamrock, and the highest place reggae song in the UK Top 40 with Welcome to Jamrock.
Like his father before him and the rest of the Marley family, he is a Rastafarian and his music reflects the Rastafari guiding principles of love and political freedom.

In Damian Marley's song "Harder," the lyrics describe a conversation between two people who are discussing the whereabouts of someone named Jose. The first person is asking the second person why they are worried about Jose, and the second person responds by asking where he is and what the first person wants him for. The second person then claims to have something for Jose and asks for it to be given to him.
The conversation takes a sudden turn when the second person seems to realize that they have gotten themselves into some trouble, exclaiming "look what me got me self in to." The second person then reveals that Jose is in jail for "double-crossing" them, and the lyrics end with a plea for mercy and the sound of a gunshot.
The song's lyrics can be interpreted in many different ways, but they seem to be touching on themes like loyalty, betrayal, and desperation. It's possible that the two people in the conversation are involved in some kind of criminal activity, and Jose's betrayal has put them in danger. The second person's sudden realization of their situation and their exclamation of "look what me got me self in to" suggests that they may be regretting their involvement and feeling trapped in their circumstances.
