Jurado's solo career began during the mid-1990s, releasing lo-fi folk based recordings on his own cassette-only label, Casa Recordings, beginning in 1995.
Jurado often makes use of found-sound and field-recording techniques, and has experimented with different forms of tape recordings. In 2000 he released Postcards and Audio Letters, a collection of found audio letters and fragments that he had found from sources such as thrift store tape players and answering machines. Also released in 2000 was Ghost of David,, Jurado's bleakest and most personal sounding record to date. I Break Chairs, (2002) was produced by long time friend, David Bazan. It was his last album for Sub Pop, and was a much rockier, electric affair. After signing for the Indiana-based label Secretly Canadian, Damien Jurado reverted to his trademark folk ballad-based style, releasing six more albums: Where Shall You Take Me? (2003), On My Way To Absence (2005), And Now That I'm In Your Shadow (2006), Caught in the Trees (2008), Saint Bartlett (2010) and Maraqopa (2012).

Bad Dream
Damien Jurado Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Troubles I have seen many years
From high windows I have called you
So come save me from this fire
Forget all who hurt you, they don't know you
Come rest your tired body in my arms
From the bedroom I have called you
And I have bad dreams
Done so many bad things
So come save me from this fire
The lyrics to Damien Jurado's song Bad Dream conveys the plea of someone who is seeking rescue from a destructive relationship. The first verse establishes the person's vulnerability and the longevity of their issues with their partner. The second verse is a plea for the partner to leave their painful past behind and find solace in the person's loving embrace. The third verse is a realization of the person's own shortcomings and their need for help. The repetition of the line "So come save me from this fire" throughout the song illustrates the desperation and urgency the person feels to escape the destructive cycle they find themselves in.
The song could be interpreted as a plea for help from a loved one suffering from addiction or mental illness. The repeated reference to "this fire" may be a metaphor for the person's inner turmoil, and the "bad dreams" and "bad things" they have done might be indicative of self-destructive behavior brought about by their issues. The song's chorus, despite its bleakness, suggests that there may be hope for the person if they can find someone who will help them overcome their troubles.
Overall, Bad Dream is a powerful song that captures the despair and vulnerability of someone caught in a toxic relationship or facing inner demons.
