Jurado's solo career began during the mid-1990s, releasing lo-fi folk based recordings on his own cassette-only label, Casa Recordings, beginning in 1995.
Jurado often makes use of found-sound and field-recording techniques, and has experimented with different forms of tape recordings. In 2000 he released Postcards and Audio Letters, a collection of found audio letters and fragments that he had found from sources such as thrift store tape players and answering machines. Also released in 2000 was Ghost of David,, Jurado's bleakest and most personal sounding record to date. I Break Chairs, (2002) was produced by long time friend, David Bazan. It was his last album for Sub Pop, and was a much rockier, electric affair. After signing for the Indiana-based label Secretly Canadian, Damien Jurado reverted to his trademark folk ballad-based style, releasing six more albums: Where Shall You Take Me? (2003), On My Way To Absence (2005), And Now That I'm In Your Shadow (2006), Caught in the Trees (2008), Saint Bartlett (2010) and Maraqopa (2012).

Big Let Down
Damien Jurado Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It anchors your soul
In sadness she left you
Holding your own
Where's the love that binds us?
Not this time
Where lies the true forgiveness?
Here comes that big let down
It anchors your soul
In sadness she left you
Holding your own
Where's the love that binds us?
Not this time
Where lies the true forgiveness?
Not this time
Do you think you could forget this?
Not this time
Can you please erase this?
Not this time
The lyrics of Damien Jurado's song "Big Let Down" seem to be talking about the feeling of being let down or betrayed in a relationship. The chorus repeats the phrase, "Here comes that big let down, it anchors your soul" suggesting that this is an ongoing pattern of disappointment and sadness. The lines "in sadness, she left you, holding your own" create an image of the singer being left alone after the let down, feeling isolated and abandoned.
The questions posed in the second verse further emphasize the difficulty of forgiveness and moving on after experiencing betrayal. "Where's the love that binds us?" suggests that the trust and connection that held the relationship together is now lost. The line "do you think you could forget this?" implies that the singer is struggling to let go of the pain and move on, while "can you please erase this?" seems to be a plea to the other person to somehow make things right or take away the hurt they have caused.
Overall, the song portrays the complex emotions that come with experiencing disappointment and betrayal in a relationship, and the difficulty of finding forgiveness and healing.
