Jurado's solo career began during the mid-1990s, releasing lo-fi folk based recordings on his own cassette-only label, Casa Recordings, beginning in 1995.
Jurado often makes use of found-sound and field-recording techniques, and has experimented with different forms of tape recordings. In 2000 he released Postcards and Audio Letters, a collection of found audio letters and fragments that he had found from sources such as thrift store tape players and answering machines. Also released in 2000 was Ghost of David,, Jurado's bleakest and most personal sounding record to date. I Break Chairs, (2002) was produced by long time friend, David Bazan. It was his last album for Sub Pop, and was a much rockier, electric affair. After signing for the Indiana-based label Secretly Canadian, Damien Jurado reverted to his trademark folk ballad-based style, releasing six more albums: Where Shall You Take Me? (2003), On My Way To Absence (2005), And Now That I'm In Your Shadow (2006), Caught in the Trees (2008), Saint Bartlett (2010) and Maraqopa (2012).

Eyes for Windows
Damien Jurado Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
My eyes, they were the windows you would look through
Now much to your surprise looking through these eyes
You found beauty
I used to be a someone you would talk to
My eyes, they were the windows you would look through
Now much to your surprise looking through these eyes
Now much to your surprise looking through these eyes
You found it
In "Eyes for Windows," Damien Jurado sings about the transformation that happens when someone loses their sense of self-worth, and the effect it has on the people around them. The song begins by portraying the singer as someone who was once highly regarded by their significant other. Their eyes were the ones that their partner would look through, indicating the depth of their emotional connection. However, as time goes on and the singer loses their hold on their own identity and self-worth, they become shocked when their partner still sees beauty in them, despite their feeling of worthlessness.
The repetition of the phrase "now much to your surprise" emphasizes the feeling of shock on the part of the singer. The song's message is that one's own sense of self-worth has a profound effect on the way that others see them. The line "looking through these eyes" could suggest that the partner is seeing the singer's true self, unobscured by any feelings of inferiority or inadequacy. In this way, "Eyes for Windows" is a powerful reminder of the importance of loving oneself and knowing one's own worth.
