Jurado's solo career began during the mid-1990s, releasing lo-fi folk based recordings on his own cassette-only label, Casa Recordings, beginning in 1995.
Jurado often makes use of found-sound and field-recording techniques, and has experimented with different forms of tape recordings. In 2000 he released Postcards and Audio Letters, a collection of found audio letters and fragments that he had found from sources such as thrift store tape players and answering machines. Also released in 2000 was Ghost of David,, Jurado's bleakest and most personal sounding record to date. I Break Chairs, (2002) was produced by long time friend, David Bazan. It was his last album for Sub Pop, and was a much rockier, electric affair. After signing for the Indiana-based label Secretly Canadian, Damien Jurado reverted to his trademark folk ballad-based style, releasing six more albums: Where Shall You Take Me? (2003), On My Way To Absence (2005), And Now That I'm In Your Shadow (2006), Caught in the Trees (2008), Saint Bartlett (2010) and Maraqopa (2012).

Mountains Still Asleep
Damien Jurado Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To see you on the ground
Waving me down
Feel free to lose yourself
I do this all the time
Love is a blinding sun
We are songs to be sung
Treasures of worry here
Your voice was so sincere
I’ve known you my whole life
You told me once before
I should have known it then
Joy is letting it go
We are all mountains still asleep
I heard an echo say
We are all given away
Never to come back
And when we cross the line
We become defined
Broken sound, feeding back
The song "Mountains Still Asleep" by Damien Jurado talks about the theme of love and loss. The first stanza portrays the singer standing above the clouds to see someone on the ground waving him down. He encourages the other person to lose themselves and that love is a blinding sun. The second stanza talks about treasures of worry and his long-standing relationship with the other person. He says that the other person once told him that joy is letting go, which he should have known earlier. The final stanza talks about how we are all given away never to come back and when we cross the line, we become defined. We are left with broken sound feeding back.
The song seems to talk about the complexities of love and how it can be blinding enough to block one's view of the bigger picture until it's too late. The title "Mountains Still Asleep" could be symbolic of how we humans are yet to awaken and gain clarity on what truly matters in life. The lyrics are poetic and leave a lot to interpretation, as Jurado leaves the listener to make their own conclusions based on their experiences. He uses metaphors to tell a broader story and encourages the listener to reflect on their past and learn from mistakes.

Sad how bad music like Nicki Minaj or Cardi B or Drake got the spotlight in the 2010s but good music like this got ignored by the world.
Shows what a dreadful decade it was for the 2010s for music.
