Jurado's solo career began during the mid-1990s, releasing lo-fi folk based recordings on his own cassette-only label, Casa Recordings, beginning in 1995.
Jurado often makes use of found-sound and field-recording techniques, and has experimented with different forms of tape recordings. In 2000 he released Postcards and Audio Letters, a collection of found audio letters and fragments that he had found from sources such as thrift store tape players and answering machines. Also released in 2000 was Ghost of David,, Jurado's bleakest and most personal sounding record to date. I Break Chairs, (2002) was produced by long time friend, David Bazan. It was his last album for Sub Pop, and was a much rockier, electric affair. After signing for the Indiana-based label Secretly Canadian, Damien Jurado reverted to his trademark folk ballad-based style, releasing six more albums: Where Shall You Take Me? (2003), On My Way To Absence (2005), And Now That I'm In Your Shadow (2006), Caught in the Trees (2008), Saint Bartlett (2010) and Maraqopa (2012).

Sam and Davy
Damien Jurado Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
On our backs in the heat of the sun
On a warm October where the clouds were never
Good for rain, only changing shape
Does your blood run cold
Or your eyes go white
On a borrowed soul
Me and my girl davy, on a Sunday morn
Taking our time in a used car lot
Destination; where the sun is
Nothing is sure but the time we've got
The lyrics to Damien Jurado's song, "Sam and Davy," evoke images of two separate experiences shared with two different people. In the first verse, the singer is with his friend, Sam, lying in the tall grass on a warm October day. It is a moment of peacefulness and tranquility in the midst of changing weather patterns. The chorus poses a series of questions, asking if one's blood runs cold or if their eyes go white in moments of fear or uncertainty.
The second verse focuses on the singer's time with his girl, Davy. They are in a used car lot on a Sunday morning, taking their time as they consider their destination. The only certainty is the time they have together. Throughout the song, the changing nature of the sky and the uncertainty of their situations create a sense of unease and questioning.
The lyrics to "Sam and Davy" are open to interpretation, but they seem to suggest a theme of impermanence and the fleeting nature of time. The song conveys the idea that we are all "on borrowed time," and that we should appreciate the moments we have with the people we care about.
