Jurado's solo career began during the mid-1990s, releasing lo-fi folk based recordings on his own cassette-only label, Casa Recordings, beginning in 1995.
Jurado often makes use of found-sound and field-recording techniques, and has experimented with different forms of tape recordings. In 2000 he released Postcards and Audio Letters, a collection of found audio letters and fragments that he had found from sources such as thrift store tape players and answering machines. Also released in 2000 was Ghost of David,, Jurado's bleakest and most personal sounding record to date. I Break Chairs, (2002) was produced by long time friend, David Bazan. It was his last album for Sub Pop, and was a much rockier, electric affair. After signing for the Indiana-based label Secretly Canadian, Damien Jurado reverted to his trademark folk ballad-based style, releasing six more albums: Where Shall You Take Me? (2003), On My Way To Absence (2005), And Now That I'm In Your Shadow (2006), Caught in the Trees (2008), Saint Bartlett (2010) and Maraqopa (2012).

Silver Katherine
Damien Jurado Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Far from, from the garden
I saw stars fall like teeth
Cutting my name into the earth
Katherine, I have seen Him
Outside of Maraqopa
Pacing through the sky
Time to wake up, in the morning
Feeling free to be the wind
I can take on any mountain
Freedom is my sweetest song
I saw stars fall like teeth
Cutting my name into the earth
He's a mighty stone
He's a mighty stone
Roll away the stone
Roll away the stone
Roll away the stone
The song "Silver Katherine" by Damien Jurado is a hauntingly beautiful piece that is rich with poetic imagery and enigmatic metaphors. Katherine could be interpreted as a representation of solitude or a lost love. Jurado sings about leaving Katherine behind in the garden and witnessing stars fall like teeth, cutting his name into the earth. This line could be interpreted to mean a sense of isolation, as if he's watching from afar as everything he knows crumbles.
He then talks about seeing "Him" outside of Maraqopa, which could potentially refer to either a divine being or a sense of spiritual awakening. The pacing through the sky and the silver ushered in flight may refer to an otherworldly experience that allowed him to see beyond the mundane. The line "freedom is my sweetest song" could mean that he has come to a place of acceptance and is free from the chains that were once holding him back.
Overall, "Silver Katherine" is a poetic exploration of the human condition, touching on themes of love, loss, isolation, and spirituality. The lyrics are open to interpretation, and listeners can draw their conclusions from the rich and vivid imagery.
