Sister Rust
Damon Albarn Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sister Rust, where are you now?
I meet you over rocky mountain
Feeling blue
Waiting for a last frame to walk through
All together

But when you closed your eyes
It was then I realized
You were so far away
There was nothing I could do
To stop you feeling blue

Anyway

Sister Rust, I need you now
'Cause I've got a feeling
It's you and me again
Waiting for the credits to end
Now and forever

With something in our hearts
That if we were to stop
Would pull us away
There's nothing we can do
To stop feeling this blue

Anyway

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Damon Albarn's song Sister Rust seem to be about a person looking for a friend or loved one who is no longer present. The line "Sister Rust, where are you now?" could be interpreted as someone searching for someone they have lost touch with or someone who has passed away. The line "I meet you over rocky mountain, feeling blue, waiting for a last frame to walk through, all together" gives the impression that the singer is waiting for a moment when they can be reunited with their lost loved one.

When the singer mentions that Sister Rust closed her eyes and they realized she was far away, it could indicate that this person is not actually physically there with the singer. The last stanza of the song indicates that the singer is still searching for their "sister," but that even if they were to find her, they may not be able to stop feeling "blue" or sad. The repeated line "there's nothing we can do to stop feeling this blue" seems to suggest a sense of hopelessness in addressing the situation.

Overall, the song seems to have a melancholy and introspective tone, touching on themes of loss and longing for connection with others.

Damon Albarn's voice is like going home to me. It's not even about him, I don't know if he's a cool guy or a jerk. I don't care. His voice is home.

The movie was amazing if you can understand the undertone, which I think most people would miss as it was advertised as some kind of action flick, it was surprising food for thought. Many notions remind me of things a certain man had entertained before his untimely passage. Beautiful movie, immaculate piece of music!

I imagine a whole load of people in a masquerade ball dancing to this slowly and women in long flowing colourful dresses are being whirled around and everyone is dancing the same.
