Amazing
Dan-EE Lyrics

Broke, always complaining
I really cannot relate, shit
I know you stuck in the matrix
Can’t even handle the basics
Dammit, the box is amazing
I cannot fuck, if she basic

All my niggas go off with the savagery
Tell the truth, baby girl, can you handle me
Say you good with the stick, so I gotta see
On the track, I can sing like it’s RnB
My girl is flexi, said she can act and she wanna try dance on a pole
I cannot hate if you tell me the truth and you with other niggas but still on the low
Addicted to cash when I look in my pocket, I put on a suit and I go get some more
Hold up, my nigga, we gotta chat later, the money is calling, I’m taking this call

Dammit, the box is amazing
Bad bitch, she look like she Asian
Broke, always complaining
I really cannot relate shit
I know you stuck in the matrix
Can’t even handle the basics
Dammit, the box is amazing
I cannot fuck if she basic
Yeah mama, I feel like we made it
Come have a look at my payslips, yeah
My life is moving in stages
Loving it, I couldn’t trade it
Watch me pull up in the latest
Imma go cop me the latest
Spotify put me on playlists
Imma pull up on a spaceship

I steal the show like I’m MJ
It’s a thriller, they call me smooth criminal
Don’t get it twisted, my nigga
I make it look easy but this shit is difficult
Lil mama, fuck me like a title race
Bro, I almost came first like Liverpool
She wanna get wet, yeah
I told her pull up, the new crib got a swimming pool
Running it up and I double it
Showing you how you can get to the cake
I’m getting married to money and this is my honeymoon
I’m about to go on a date
I see them losing their morals for money but please
Do not get lost in the race
There's like a high that I get that I cannot explain
Every time I get up on the stage
Fe fi fo fum, when I pull up all the bitch niggas run
Real recognise real, Bruce Lee, yeah, I feel like the one
She asking me questions like this is an interview
Yeah, they hating on me ’cause I do what they couldn’t do

Dammit, the box is amazing
Bad bitch, she look like she Asian
Broke, always complaining
I really cannot relate, shit
I know you stuck in the matrix
Can’t even handle the basics
Dammit, the box is amazing
I cannot fuck if she basic
Yeah mama, I feel like we made it
Come have a look at my payslips, yeah
My life is moving in stages
Loving it, I couldn’t trade it
Watch me pull up in the latest
Imma go cop me the latest

Overall Meaning

In these lyrics, Dan-EE addresses various themes including success, relationships, and the pursuit of wealth. He starts by expressing his disdain for those who are broke and constantly complain, stating that he cannot relate to their attitude. He believes they are stuck in a metaphorical "matrix" and are unable to handle basic responsibilities. However, he also acknowledges the allure of material possessions, referring to a "box" that is amazing and suggesting that he is drawn to wealth and luxury.

Dan-EE then switches to discussing his relationships and encounters with women. He boasts about his group of friends who exhibit savage behavior and questions if a woman can handle him, hinting at his confidence and assertiveness. He mentions his skills as a singer on a track, comparing himself to RnB artists. He points out that his girlfriend is talented and flexible, capable of acting and even dancing on a pole. He expresses his openness to honesty in relationships, suggesting that he doesn't mind if his partner is involved with other men as long as she is truthful about it. However, he admits his addiction to money, always wanting more and putting on a suit to go earn it. He adds that he needs to prioritize the call of money, indicating his determination to achieve financial success.

Moving on, Dan-EE reflects on his accomplishments and the life he's created. He feels a sense of achievement and invites someone to look at his payslips as evidence of his success. He describes his life as moving in stages and expresses his love for it, implying that he wouldn't trade it for anything. He brags about pulling up in the latest car and being featured on Spotify playlists, which suggests his increasing popularity and recognition. He even fantasizes about pulling up in a spaceship, emphasizing his ambitions and desires for even grander achievements.

Dan-EE then adds some playful wordplay and references. He compares himself to Michael Jackson, stating that he steals the show, just like the legendary performer. He acknowledges that while he makes it look easy, success is actually difficult to attain. He mentions a potential sexual encounter, relating it to a competitive race where he came close to finishing first like the football club Liverpool. He invites a woman to join him in his new home with a swimming pool. He highlights his goal of increasing wealth, doubling his money, and using his success as an example for others to follow. He metaphorically compares his dedication to money to a honeymoon, implying that his commitment is unwavering. Dan-EE closes the lyrics by recognizing the criticism he faces from others and how he surpasses their expectations, causing them to hate him for achieving what they couldn't.

After being frantic about the ending, I took a second or two to reflect on the story. It's actually quite beautiful.

I think She and Alice are the same person. The single footprint supports that. Something terrible has happened to her and a part of her has shut down; hence Alice sleeping all of the time. She goes on vacation not just to get a break from the scene of the terrible event, but also to reconcile with the part of her self that has shut down. Her, constantly trying to reach Alice is Her, trying to wake that part of her self up to face the tragedy and also see the beauty that is surounding her, But she falls prey to the darkness. So, she goes out to a party or perhaps a club and drinks her self into a stupor. That is why she wakes up on the deck still fully dressed with a glass of martini next to her heels. Sort of like, if you can't beat them join them type of reaction.
So, the still concious part of her falls into the deep darkness too, hence the black out on the screen.

But a part of her self, a part that she wasn't even aware was there(that is why the voice is male) pulls Her and Alice out of the darkness with all of the questions. So she and Alice both finally wake up. Alice's reponse to her asking her how she feels is a metaphor to say that she is ready to start to reconsile both parts of herself. However, in order to do so, she has to remain away from the scene of the tragedy, therefore, the "No more Phone" rule. At the end, when Alice is kind of falling asleep while standing, that a symbolism for her not being completely ok. Every now and then, she still wants to "go back to sleep" but she keeps on fighting.

And that is my take on the film. If anyone has another view point, please share!

Great job to everyone involved in this project!!

@TheSeKondElement You know, I'm glad I didn't read the poem before watching the film.

Swankk e. Smalls

"The short [is] an interpretation of the poem The Mirror Between Us by Rumi—is a lyrical account of two women vacationing in the Maldives Islands after an earthquake incident left them traumatized."

So it also depends on how you interpret Rumi's poem, which makes this short all the more interesting and awesome.

bluelion85

Excellent film. Obviously left to the viewers interpretation: I believe Nicole Beharie's friend died (as represented by all black and eyes closed @:50) and the earthquake represented her life being shaken up. She needed a vacation after the incident and reflects on how she would enjoy the vacation if her friend was there (her friend actually being there are mental visions/conversations) Footprint @5:35 is a symbol that she's alone + unanswered phone calls. Just my interpretation

Darla Bubbles

I love Nicole Beharie. She ruins my life in the best way possible. LOVE HER!!!! ♥
