2. An Australian singer/songwriter
1. Dan Bull is an English rapper and songwriter known for his politically orientated lyrics and specific addressing of high profile figures in his music. His music has been featured in the British press as part of attempts to save BBC Radio 6, campaign against the Digital Economy Bill, and protest in favour of filesharing.
He has released four albums, "Safe" (2009), Face (2011), The Garden (2014) and Hip Hop Hooray (2017) but is most well known for his video game raps on YouTube, of which he has made 27 mixtapes in a series called "Generation Gaming". He has become famous for many songs about video games and technology.
Dan Bull announced via his website that he was aiming to get into the UK and Global charts with his new track "Sharing is caring." He offered it on iTunes, Play.com, Amazon and on torrent via The Pirate Bay. To people who bought all 10 versions of his track, they would be thanked in a music video of his, given that they notify him with sufficient proof. The lyrical content in the different versions of his track were targeted at popular social networking sites, Facebook, Twitter. and Google+. He also offered the instrumental by itself, voice only versions, and remixes of each track. The Animal Circus remix reached the top of the Reggae charts on Amazon UK, and second place in the World category.
2. It was a chance meeting and a passing comment by Beastie Boys’ keyboardist Money Mark that gave Dan Bull that extra bit of inspiration to step out of a dream gig touring with Eskimo Joe to launch a solo career.
In the middle of touring as Eskimo Joe’s keyboardist for the Big Day Out Tour in 2004, Dan happened to meet Money Mark whose words of wisdom were that in order to make it in the music world - one must take the plunge and go out on their own.
Never one to shy away from a challenge - Dan heeded Money’s advice, left the band, launched a solo career and has not looked back since.
Hailing from the rich music mecca of Perth, Western Australia - Dan has just released his third EP entitled “Hanging Up My Mind” and recently returned from a launch tour across the eastern seaboard.
With a radio personality as a father, Dan grew up surrounded by music and had his first piano lesson at the tender age of 6. A few years later Dan took up the french horn and studied voice soon after. Dan’s classical music studies continued for many years and throughout his teens and early twenties he toured with several orchestras across Australia and Europe.
Dan went on to play live piano and keyboards with a number of Perth bands, including The Sleepy Jackson before joining Eskimo Joe in 2004.
Dan released his first EP – self-titled “Dan Bull” – in mid 2005 followed by “Nothing Bad Again” in 2006 – both of which have had songs Unearthed and play listed by Triple J and also picked up by Nova.
Dan's music can be described as an atmospheric mix of pop, rock and soul and he cites an eclectic mix of influences including Elton John, the Beatles, Brian Wilson, Doves and N*E*R*D.
Summer Rain
Dan Bull Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Step out into the downpour
Listen to the sound your
Listen to the sound your soul makes
As if it's soulmates
With the ground
The rain falls down
The ground
To the floor
The summer rain has come again
The pavement sizzles like drizzling lemonade
Oh, and the sunlight seems unlikely
To be on my cheeks for one fine evening
There's nobody else around
Absence has a powerful sound
Blades of grass are fine enough to make a scalpel proud
Alka-Seltzer sizzle drizzle pelts the ground
I can't help myself but shout aloud
To tell the crowd
That while they're out, I'm out of bounds
I could flee till my knees hurt
Feel the breeze in my t-shirt
But there's so many aesthetically pleasing things here to see first
The summer rain has come again
The pavement sizzles like drizzling lemonade
Oh, and the sunlight seems unlikely
To be on my cheeks for one fine evening
Flowers bob, nod and rattle
Under fat drops of rain big as apples
And the street steams like a kettle, singing
Each bead a little a nettle, stinging
My skin in a million different places
Precipitation amidst the vegetation
The British air is changing
And sitting under parked cars there are kitties waiting
Watching me pace by
I stop and then say hi
The summer rain has come again
The pavement sizzles like drizzling lemonade
Oh, and the sunlight seems unlikely
To be on my cheeks for one fine evening
Could never sing, but I sang though; Dionysus
Air rang with the tang of a mango; delicious
Living in a fictitious middle English mangrove, that's been kissed
With the liquid sunshine that some find in Orlando
I hang under the jungle canopy
Catching an undiluted glimpse of clarity
Refracting through the prism imprisoning my sanity
For all the laws we're living in anarchy
Causing wars, it's giving me anomy
The rows of windows are frames inside a strange gallery
Of apathy
Inhabitants happily having tea
Warm water colours reality
Washes away the banality
The summer rain has come again
The pavement sizzles like drizzling lemonade
Oh, and the sunlight seems unlikely
To be on my cheeks for one fine evening
My hair is getting wetter
The air is getting fresher
Before the storm I'm sure I could barely bear the pressure out
But it's getting better now
It was one of those horribly hot days
The barometer's ominous clock face
Was something Hieronymus Bosch paints
From Shropshire to Gloucester to Warwickshire
Forests of conifers congregate like choristers
And praise displays of flowers as a florist does
Knowledge buds and blooms in the soil
Olives crushed producing an oil
To lubricate the mind
Illuminate and shine
A human ray of light
Right through the rain tonight
It just might quite save a life
The summer rain has come again
The pavement sizzles like drizzling lemonade
Oh, and the sunlight seems unlikely
To be on my cheeks for one fine evening
In Dan Bull’s song “Summer Rain,” the singer is encouraging listeners to embrace the downpour and listen to the sound their soul makes as if it’s connected to the ground. The summer rain is back, and the pavement sizzles like drizzling lemonade. The singer revels at the aesthetic pleasures that the rain brings, like watching flowers bob and nod under the fat drops of rain, steam rising from the street curiously, and kittens hiding under parked cars waiting to be petted. In a way, the song is a tribute to the transformative power of rain, washing away the banality and lubricating the mind, so we can see things with a different perspective.
The chorus speaks to the joy the singer feels in holding their head up high under the rain despite the absence of others. The summer rain is an event worth celebrating and seeking, even if only for oneself - the refreshing sensation of cool air on hot days and the possibility that refracted light can save lives. The song's lyrics are impactful, portraying the rain as a natural force to be cherished instead of avoided, and that the simple things in life can bring profound joy.
