Thistopia
Dan Bull Lyrics

The dystopia
Gets slowly worse
Over the years
We're going to burn

And I'm sorry for making you scared
But it's a sorry state of affairs
When man's a virus with shoes, a violent abuser
Of the planet he resides on and relies on it too
I want to do something to change it
But I'm afraid it's inside us, entwined in our nature
You and I should face it - the primary trait that
Unites the races is the way we use nature and rape it
I'm trying to find pride in my nation
But I'll die waiting for higher civilisation

Sorry for making you scared
But it's a sorry state of affairs when

The dystopia
Gets slowly worse
Over the years
We're going to burn
Dystopia
Gets slowly worse
Over the years
We're going to burn

And I'm sorry for making you scared
But it's a sorry state of affairs - listen

The class system of a past Britain
That still runs fast and thick through the innards of every last citizen
If you're from Pakistan, black-skinned, or just act different
You'll be asked questions and blacklisted
The fact is we're attached umbilically
To a fetid capitalist trap full of misery
But that isn't what gets me, the ignorant hegemony
But the fact that we're happy to live with it

The disaffected youth are in effect living proof
That respect is reduced to a reckless abuse
Of the ends where they grew through the stem to the roots
They will step on your shoes then expect you to move
Flipping heck, next thing they'll do's
Have you hanging in a hood, neck through a noose
So whether you accept or you're scared of the truth
Say your prayers cos we're due for a desolate future

The dystopia
Gets slowly worse
Over the years
We're going to burn
Dystopia
Gets slowly worse

Over the years
We're going to burn

Overall Meaning

In "ThisTopia," Dan Bull paints a bleak picture of our future as a species. He begins by acknowledging that the dystopia that we are headed towards is getting worse and worse. He expresses regret for causing fear in people yet highlights the need to face the sorry state of affairs that we have put ourselves in. He likens man's behavior to that of a virus that is destroying the planet he lives on, and though he wants to change things, he worries that the problem is inherent in us. He notes that we use nature in exploitative ways, and that this unites us despite our differences in race, nationality, and creed. He expresses frustration with society for not taking the necessary steps towards becoming a higher civilization and suggests that we may be beyond redemption.

Bull goes on to criticize the class system in Britain, highlighting how it still exists and affects even those who are not aware of it. He suggests that being different or merely looking different is enough to earn one discrimination and ostracism. He emphasizes that our system is failing us, and that we all are chained to a capitalist trap that is full of misery. He takes particular aim at the youth, who he says are living proof of how respect has been replaced by reckless abuse. He notes that they will walk all over you and expect you to move and that they are headed towards a desolate future.

Overall, "ThisTopia" is a scathing critique of our current state of affairs as a society. Dan Bull recognizes that we are headed towards a dystopia of our making, and while he wants things to change, he is not hopeful of this happening.

Only 1000 views...it deserves sooo much more.....I'm probably wrong on the meaning but to me it feels like someone trying to convince someone else that there's no point searching for a utopia we can all live in with peace and harmony because it will never exist.

Isasaur

He is saying dystopia, but it's a mix between this and dystopia.
